What this? One of my threads, involved in a _sports hijack?!_ This will not stand! So, in hopes of getting things back on track, I offer up this line from a supposed movie critic, as qouted in the commercial for John Travolta’s new movie: “John Travolta plays a good-guy hero.” Thank you. ---

It’s like this Miller: The people of the Land of the Long Beige Cloud are really spoiled. I mean spoiled as in over-indulged. The country is the size of Britain or Japan but there are only 4 million people in it. The winter is the equivalent of a northern hemisphere spring, there are no crowds, no lines, no long commutes. You’d be surprised at the standard of living a university graduate with a good job can have here. Most of the time people don’t realise how lucky they are and how much they have. Having two of everything when everyone else in the world barely has one is quite natural to them. They’ll use two words when one will do, have two jobs when some people can’t get one, own two cars, two dogs, two televisions. Yet if there’s one identifying trait the people of this country possess I’d say it was jealousy. Strange but true. ---

But for redundant place names I don’t think you can do better than the Brits… and I humbly offer **Torpenhow** by way of example. Each syllable means “hill” in one language or another, thus hill-hill-hill. \ On All Blacks – and certainly without wanting any sports hijack… one of my co-workers was accosted and somewhat harrassed in a US gym, for the **All Blacks** cap she was wearing… somebody took exception to it and accused her of being racist. :rolleyes: Wonder what they would have said if it’d been the soccer teams cap? Errr… that’d be the _All Whites_. 🙂 ---
