Don’t give up hope! Maybe you’ll get a deadly brain tumor, and they’ll carve that memory out when they’re removing it!

I’m not sure about the eyes, but definitely not smiling. The mood was somber and not festive like at some wakes.

Well, these ain’t a patch on some of the stories already told, but…

An acquaintance of mine who not only knew which gas station in town sold the cheapest generic-brand cigarettes, but who had a precious name-brand box she would transfer them into, taking great care to make sure they looked like they were factory-packaged.

Long ago, when I worked in a grocery store in a mildly scary neighborhood, I saw a mom come to the front of the store with her son (maybe four or so) in the kiddie seat of the cart. As they got to the checkstand, the kid saw the candy, and he clearly wanted it. He asked his mom if he could have it, and she said no. Internally, I applauded - this was a woman who was trying to teach her son healthy eating habits and raise him right. He insisted. She said no, pointing out that it was almost dinnertime. I was ready to shake her hand. The kid grabbed a candybar from the display and put it on the belt. She said no and put it back. Grab, return - two or three cycles while the kid got madder and madder. She put it back on the rack one last time, and I could see that the kid wasn’t going to reach for it again. I was ready to give the lady a hug and tell her she was being a great mother.

The kid hauls off and clocks his mother with a closed fist. She then picks up the candy bar herself and puts it on the belt with her groceries. I nearly broke into tears.

The kid, at four or whatever, has already learned that when women say no you just have to hit them and they will change their minds. The mother, although she would deny it if asked, believes this herself - **she** was the one who actually put the candy on the belt the last time. The kid learned it from somewhere, probably his father. That poor, poor woman.

If the eyes had been open, you’d remember. ::shudder::

It’s a pretty long bow to draw. The woman has a brat kid so her husband is a wife beater.

I don’t think that’s a stretch at all. How often have you seen a small child punching his mom in the face? That kind of behavior is learned, and watching dad punch mom would be my very first thought.

How do you know it was from watching the father? It is no more than speculation.

I don’t know. But it’s an obvious guess, and more likely than any other single thing I can think of. I

As a guess, it’s not a stretch.

On two separate occasions someone insisted my daughter wasn’t a girl because her ears were not pierced. She was less than a year old.

Just thought of the most recent trashy thing –

[Zsa Zsa’s trashy husband wants Zsa Zsa to have a child at age 94.](http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/Gabor+husband+wants+year+wife+bear+child/4656668/story.html)

Among Zsa Zsa, the husband and the daughter, the trash has been really piling up.

Plenty of those around here. (Texas, of course–you had to ask?) My wife has a fantasy of going down to the nearest country & western bar with a big pair of shears and castrating all the trucks in the parking lot. I’m not sure how afraid I should be.
