The trend of Male bashing

I take your Taxi and raise you a Three’s Company, an Alice, and an It’s a Living. But I don’t think it’s fair to use Taxi as an example, when Elaine was the only woman in the main cast anyway. The Simpsons I’ll grant you, even though Bart is smarter than Marge, and even though Marge is in no way presented as infallible.
Whether or not Marge is presented as competent in any way outside of the domestic sphere differs from episode to episode. It’s been a while since I saw Grounded for Life, but I remember Claudia bumbling into stupid predicaments just like Sean, and Lily bumbling into more. Not familiar with any of the other shows.

Amber Pawlik, aka Mini-Coult, has a series of grammar lessons on her website. The lessons are riddled with misspellings and grammatical errors. How awesome is that?

Actually, over the years I’ve been one of those who slam her the most. She’s defintely a right-wing harpy, but she does also seriously believe that men are the Superior Sex, if you ever encounter her bullshit about marriage and ‘marriagable women’.

She’s stupid from a lot of angles. Where I ran into her ‘men are the superior sex’ stuff was around SheThinks.

She’s a stark raving nutjob, but she’s also a woman who’s said that men are smarter than women.

She imagines herself to be a serious journalist, too.

What an imagination she must have. Anyway, MGibson, Coulter Sr. also believes that women are intellectually inferior to men (shouldn’t be allowed by law to vote), and she has quite a following.

Just like if there was a sit-com featuring a woman constantly resisting the amorous advances of a hot guy. Not only would it be hilarious, but it would also be proof that she was a lesbian. :dubious:

Your correlation doesn’t work - Jeannie loved him and would get insanely jealous when he had an occasional date with another woman, but she never made amorous advances towards Major Nelson.

Perhaps you don’t “get it,” but it’s one way how straight men badger, each other: if you don’t find <insert insanely hot female du jour> hot, then you must be gay. Newsflash: straight men don’t want to be thought of as gay. Depletes macho self-esteem. So, there underlying the fragile male psyche, is a font of unlimited comedy potential.

Due to such badgering, is it any wonder that Larry Hagman sloughed the image of Major Nelson and took on the super-macho persona of JR Ewing on the show Dallas and refused to appear in any of the Jeannie TV movies?

Major Nelson was not gay, and that he were used as an example was nothing more than silly facetiouness; a joke. So was my commentary that followed.

I asked about this in another thread on a similar topic; how does that commercial end? Was the husband right about the new brake pads, or was he clueless and the woman was right to doubt her husband and ask the mechanic?

I think that the car needs the metal brake pads, but the $99 charge covers it even if you need the expensive ones (i.e. husband was right.)

How about this commercial?

It’s the one for a men’s face lotion product. When the commercial first came out, the guy opens the medicine cabinet and it’s filled with something like a hundred different “women’s” products, and he immediately closes the cabinet. Ha, ha! They’re sort of making a joke about how many products women use that they don’t really need. Silly women! Ha, ha… heh… uh… they’re making fun of women?? I wonder how long they’ll get away with that?

Sure enough, they just changed the commercial, and now when the guy opens the cabinet, there is a woman’s voiceover saying, “keep away from my stuff.”

See? Now the guy is the dumb one they’re making fun of. Phew. Everything’s back to normal again.
