The trial of Elizabeth Holmes (Theranos)[sentenced to 11+ yrs, 18Nov2022]

We need details.

No maid service? New tennis balls issued only weekly? Domestic foie gras instead of imported?

Her adoring public needs to be made aware of the depths of her anguish.

It’s exactly the same though process that was tweeted by a Jan 6 “patriot” (how big can a /S be? Not big enough), Jennifer Ryan, who tweeted:

“Definitely not going to jail. Sorry I have blonde hair white skin a great job a great future and I’m not going to jail. Sorry to rain on your hater parade. I did nothing wrong.”

And sadly, things are moving in the direction of proving this sort of thing to be correct. Fundamentally, jail is ONLY for people of color and/or the poor. DJT and his enablers (read the whole Republican party) have always had this as a subtext, but now it’s a rallying cry. Justice is for everyone else, it’s some form of retribution if it’s targeted at them.

Holmes had been playing the same damn card the whole time, just wasn’t as good at it and didn’t have powerful and wealthy enablers to the same degree.

Her problem was that she ripped off the powerful and wealthy. If he scam targeted primarily poor people she’d be fine. That said, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he commutes her sentence.

Very slight disagree - she didn’t have the backers, and she made people who had real wealth and authority look bad - IE the big investors. So yes, just as you said, if she had only ripped off the poor and weak, there would have been dramatically fewer consequences, but they also used her to prove that “The system works!”.

They (MAGA / Republicans / Plutocrats) have largely abandoned even that fig leaf these days.

Although, as it happens, she did go to jail:

Wasn’t Dick Cheney one of the prominent people that Elizabeth Holmes manipulated to help her find wealthy investors? If that’s correct (I swear that was in the book I read, but a cursory Google search is not confirming it), for sure Trump will want to pardon her. She’s perfect for a position in his cabinet, and it’s a thumb in the eye of the Cheneys. A twofer!

I don’t believe Dick Cheney was ever involved. You may be thinking of George Shultz.

Not only was George Shultz one of her major investors (and promoter for other investment) but one of the main whistleblowers was his grandson, Tyler Shultz, whom George allegedly pressured to retract his claims.

Trump can’t make any money off of Holmes and while pardoning her would be outrageous, it wouldn’t really be seen as a ‘owning the libtards’ move. Unless, of course, Ms. Holmes starts making arm signals and talking about her theorems of neo-eugenics…

I bet that was it, thanks.

He could certainly use it to stoke racial strife - “look what they did to this pretty white woman while illegal immigrants run free.”

[not really a hijack] He couldn’t make any money off of Rod Blagojevich, but he commuted his sentence in term 1 THEN pardoned him in term 2. I think his only criteria is that the person pledges their everlasting fealty and kisses the ring.

And pays a certain number of bitcoin to a certain account #.

Bitcoin? I expect that gifts would be expected to be provided in TRUMP coins.

@Elendil_s_Heir you misspelled a word. Let me see if I can help:

Boo fucking hoo!

Lots of “I, me, me, I, I and I” here

Reminds me of the critic who said that Theodore Roosevelt’s memoir of the Spanish-American War should have been titled Alone in Cuba.

Holmes’ latest appeal has been denied by a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit. She can still attempt to get the entire court to hear it or try for SCOTUS, but it’s not looking good.

Or to put it another way, it’s looking very good.

Hahahahaha

Plus:

Her daily routine includes a workout, largely vegan meals, teaching French to other inmates and working on her campaign to reform the criminal justice system

She’s developing a machine called “Holmes” which takes a drop of the defendant’s blood and determines guilt in court without all the mess of hearings, jury selection and voir dire, testimony, and deliberations. She’s already used it successfully to demonstrate her own innocence. Now seeking seed investment; get in on the ground floor of a “don’t miss” startup led by the (formerly) youngest CEO of a billion dollar SiVal startup who was featured in Forbes, Inc, and The Wall Street Journal.

I see what you tied together there. Outstanding!
