The trial of Elizabeth Holmes (Theranos)[sentenced to 11+ yrs, 18Nov2022]

Not technically murder in a strict legal sense but she certainly did enough damage that it was functionally equivalent in the conventional use of the word

Back in the early 80s, there were a bunch of actual pyramid schemes that were floating around in Salt Lake City. They didn’t have any products or anything else, you just paid to invest and then other people would pay you back.

I knew somebody who got burned by one of those schemes. He was an otherwise intelligent, middle-aged man, and he knew that it was likely a scam, but the amount of investment for him was small, maybe a couple hundred dollars, and he could get a couple thousand if it wound up that he was in early enough to get paid.

I had absolutely no sympathy for him, and I’m finding it difficult to have too much sympathy for some of these investors who should have done due diligence and they didn’t.

What was the drugstore, was it Walgreens (?) I don’t remember the details from the story, but they actually paid her money for machines to be put in their stores that weren’t delivered, didn’t they? I don’t understand that one at all.

I’m not going to be bamboozled and I find sociopaths kind of interesting.

Like “Life on Earth” by David Attenborough?

I think you cast the net a bit wide here.

Attenborough? That motherfucker? Tell me he wasn’t biased against those poor racer snakes just trying to get a meal :slightly_smiling_face:. Enough with the dramatic music and inserted hiss noises, David! We all know you’re all about the baby iguanas!

Eh, he’d jumped the shark by Planet Earth
