The Trouble With Tea-Baggers And Progressives.

TEABAGGER = Totally Enraged About Blacks And Gays Getting Equal Rights

Missed your post msmith537, I skim.

I love you guys. I’ll try to simplify. Corporations are not at fault. It’s the rich and greedy assholes on their boards along with their insider investors who have turned corporations into Frankenstinean elephants in the room.

And here I was blaming the janitors. Thanks for the correction!

Pulling shit out of your ass is not a political philosophy.

The problem is not that politicians aren’t responsive to people’s will, it’s that they *are *responding. People want more stuff that benefits them and want to pay less to get it. We once had a politician who told people that taxes were going to have to be raised and he lost in a landslide to the guy who said they wouldn’t. Then it ended up they did have to be raised after all.

People are morons and they elect people that lie to them. What would happen to a politician who said we need to raise taxes and cut spending, and here are the areas that I will cut?

The entire OP rant is an example that people are too lazy to understand even a little bit about how things work and what needs to be done to make it better.

Exactly. And we be da janitors on call. Listen up!

Not according to a good many political philosophers.

don’t give a shit what it is.

Know how to get rid of short selling? Tax corporate profits progressively above 5-15%. Give corps that actually produce something beneficial, and I’m not talking about Monsanto, tax incentives. Tax the assholes who build and traffic arms and war among themselves for oil and drug trade advantage out of business.

Heh. The corporations aren’t at fault, just the people who run them.

You have some things that I agree with adhay, but I think your philosophy needs a bit more thought. Obama is far from perfect, but if you can’t see the differences between him & Bush, or between the two parties in general, you’re really not seeing things clearly.

Maybe you should look up the meaning of anarchy and libertarian in the dictionary.

So your solution to our current problem is to cut corporate tax rates? That’ll show them!!

Nailed me. Can’t see the trees for the forest.

Exactly! Everyone must give during this recession, yet when a program special to one person, they dig in their heels and fight.

I hate what I hear of the budget deficit. Do we need to cut costs? Sure, and programs should be cut when people are willing to sacrifice; unfortunately, many still don’t seem to be willing. But for people to go to the streets in this day and throw up arms over the rising deficit come off as children sulking because they didn’t get what they wanted from the last election. Where the hell were they during the ramp up to this deficit that occurred over the past decade?

Cynicism, sound bites and a lazy populace is what should be blamed for whatever failings this country faces. If anyone in this country believes they cannot affect this country and government, I say open your eyes. I believe Obama was elected due to a very hardworking uprising that won 2008, got lazy and has now almost squandered that great success.

I like Obama. I trust Obama. But I believe he is handicapped by a Congress more interested in reelection than in the health of this country.

I wish the people that got Obama elected would turn their energy to the coming election and that all the deadwood in congress would be booted out.

There are huge, fundamental differences between the tea party & progressives.

The tea party tends to be “aristocratic” for lack of a better term. The reality is the tea party is made up of uber-conservative, christian white republicans who are enraged that in a democracy the people decided they didn’t want to be led by uber-conservative, christian white republicans. They are the GOP base and they are angry that they didn’t get their way in a democratic election. Being upset over an election is fine, but they are becoming more and more open to violence to get their way.

On top of that, they are anti-egalitarian vs progressives who are pro-egalitarian. Beck considers social justice a form of tyranny. Progressives consider it cornerstone of their worldview.

So you really can’t lump them together. The ideology is totally different. The tea party is the base of the right wing, progressives are the base of the left wing.

Corporate hegemony is a problem though. And if the tea party is willing to work with progressives to oppose corporate hegemony, more power to them.

90% of the government isn’t corruption though. Roughly 80% of government funding goes to military, health care, education & pensions for the elderly. The concept of the government mostly funding fraud isn’t true.

As a progressive liberal, I don’t blame Bush’s wars for our plight. I think the war in Iraq was a mistake, but it really isn’t responsible for our plight. I blame Reaganomics for our plight. But opposing Reaganomics and opposing corporate hegemony are pretty much the same thing.

Howdy, Wes.

Yes, TBs have little in their minds but Fox buzzwords while progressives have arrived at their political views after years of honest research and the unbiased weighing of alternatives.

My point is that the tea-baggers, progressives and everybody else face THE problem of our corporate kleptocracy. Unregulated Capital, by it’s nature, is a killer. Capital with corporate faces has bought the govt and they are not about to go back on the deal. With Congress in their pocket, corporations regulate themselves and a lot of legislative debate is merely about how to “fairly” divvy up the US Treasury.

I don’t blame Reagan or any President for where we are today. Ronnie was merely the right man for the job at the time when corporations were ready to publicly declare war on regulation. W was the right man for the job when corporations decided to wage overt war in the Middle-East while Wall Street scammed the market. And Obama, regardless of his personal views, is doing his “reform” dance to cosmeticize the obvious results of corporate self-regulation, in particular, our incredible “public” debt owned by our banks.

I think the one thing the left and right could get together on would be a 28th Amendment to the Constitution which denies corporate ‘personhood’ and provides for strict regulation of how they do business.

But given that a good percentage of what’s left of our middle-class believes that tax cuts for the rich, the scaling back of social programs and waging endless war somehow benefits them, it would be an uphill battle.

As far as the % of cost of govt corruption goes and given the govt lies justifying our Middle-East adventures, you can add their cost in money, lives and material to the total. And while you’re at it, add in the cost of the bank bailouts. Maybe not 90% but we’re getting there.

Just taking a shot in the dark, if politicians are controlled by corporations, are corporations controlled by the Illuminati?

So what you’d really like is a government sworn to protect the people from predatory capitalism?

Who wouldn’t? Have you got a plan to get us there?

Teabaggers are rabidly upset about the bailout of the banks. Again, who’s not? But the choice was this or let them, and the world economy fail. We’re not talking recession, we’re talking world wide depression, it would take a generation or more to recover from.

They want to lay it all at the feet of the guy who was left a huge mess to clean up. The guy willing to make the hard choices. Deregulating Wall Street, coupled with very expensive, ill advised wars led to the problem. But the guy who’s trying to save us is the evil one? I’m not buying it.

You seem to want a government willing to make hard/unpopular choices when need be, to protect the citizenry from the evil capitalists. I agree with that. But then you can’t see that this is exactly what this guy is doing? Somewhat short sighted, I’d say.

You don’t change a wholly corrupt system overnight. It has to happen in baby steps. Like reforming healthcare, it’s not where everyone wanted just yet, but it’s on it’s way. Same with nuclear disarmament, we’re not there yet, but we’re getting closer. Regulating Wall Street and Immigration will be the same, steps closer to the ideals we share and away from letting the predatory capitalists have free reign.

Dude, we have to start somewhere.

While I agree with most of your sentiments, it’s the President’s nuclear disarmament plan that concerns me. As wonderful a proposal it may be, it’s unrealistic.

The only possibly workable one I’ve been able to come with is that 28th amendment.

. Postponed it into something that’s likely to be worse.

Hey, dude, check my posts here. I am not blaming Reagan, Bush or Obama. You call our wars ill-advised? I call them criminal enterprises. And they are happening right now on Obama’s watch. I also watch with interest Obama’s Wall Street reforms. Reinstatement of Glass-Steagall with provisions to eliminate hi-frequency trading? I doubt it.

Not everybody is going to be happy with everything he wades into. I think, to expect as much, is unrealistic. But what’s the alternative? You got yourselves a strict 2 party system. And party number 2 seems more interested in being obstructionist than participating, not to mention that much of the current mess should, rightly, be laid at their feet.

At least you finally got someone who’s moving in the right direction, even if it’s not exactly as you’d like to see. The guy doesn’t have a magic wand, give him some time.

Teagaggers don’t want to be defined, because they are just a bunch of slogans. True American’s, smaller government, lower taxes, no more bailouts. They aren’t a burgeoning party, by their own admission. So what are they? A bunch of people who just like platitudes, with no real solutions to offer and lots of victim mentality. Quit whining and propose some solutions or shut the hell up. If they don’t want to be defined as racists, bigots, homophobes or dimwits then tell us what you do stand for, and what you plan to do to fix things.

They are like Republican Yippies, no leader, no agenda, street theatre but more disturbing than amusing. At least the Yippies amused us by trying to levitate the Pentagon, created a riot on the floor of the stock exchange by chucking in bags of 1$ bills. The teagagger seem just a bunch of people too dim to spell ‘nigger’ or ‘moron’ correctly. That’s not amusing it’s just sad.

You defined in your post what they stand for: “True American’s, smaller government, lower taxes, no more bailouts.”
