And based on the limited information available are you confident the limitation that Trump proposed would be meaningfully different? I would guess it would have to be on a go forward basis rather than retro active given the 1st amendment protections.

Exactly. What is a “regulation”? One chapter of the CFR? One section, one paragraph, one subparagraph, one sentence, one clause in a sentence?

It’s pure ignorance slightly dressed up as childish thinking. The fact it passes the laugh test for anyone is horrifying.

He wants to cut all NASA funding for climate science. We are living in an Orwellian nightmare.

If you are interested in which agencies participate in climate science research, see [Our Changing Planet, FY 2017](https://downloads.globalchange.gov/ocp/ocp2017/Our-Changing-Planet_FY-2017_full.pdf) (large PDF report)

On page 42, You can see NASA funds $1,549M of the total $2,599M, dwarfing all other contributions to research.

If you don’t like the policy implications of science, just stop funding it and you can put your head in the sand and just make policy decisions in the absence of solid science.

What counts as “one” regulation? I imagine that there’s quite a bit of diversity in the length and complexity of regulations. Couldn’t they just enact some big 200 page regulation and repeal two trivial things to go along (and then staple the same things onto the new one as pages 201 and 202)?

I fear the opposite effect would take place in this “Let’s free up business!” atmosphere-trivial regulations introduced for the purpose of eliminating major regs that business lobbyists find distasteful.

One of the first regulations to go, I figure, will be the one where bankers have to mention if a mortgage’s interest rate is scheduled to double every leap year.

That’s a regulation, right?

Speaking of which, would it be an act of war if Trump got grabby with Merkel and Merkel, having decided she’d had enough of that crap, broke his nose?

I’m not sure what would happen when Trump’s Secret Service detail goes up against whatever Merkel’s German government equivalent is called.

But I know to always bet on the Germans in the early stages of a conflict. They’re just too damn good at that. 😃

You have omitted the third effect; if he does deliver on his promises the demographic which elected him will wear most of the short term adverse effects and whatever benefits accrue will be both slow in coming and not necessarily to their advantage.

Overall I think the know-nothings have delivered the billionaire’s wet dream.

What Trump will deliver is be a free-fire zone for the rich against the middle & lower classes.

What Trump will talk about incessantly is how the quick fixes keep getting stymied by those mean Establishment pols, both D & R. and that pesky constitutional bullshit: [Court Says Police Need to Make Time for “This Constitutional Bullshit” – Lowering the Bar](http://loweringthebar.net/2016/11/court-says-police-have-to-make-time.html)

Depending on the breaks of timing, this \*could \*deliver a solidly D congress in 2018 if the common folks get wise to the con _and_ the Ds play their hand perfectly.

Far more likely the propaganda front holds long enough and it returns a wildly Trumpist congress in 2018 and they actually support some of his hare-brained headline grabbers. About then the professional bureaucracy folds its resistance too and that’s when life in Amerika gets surreal.

I have to agree with your analysis. As the political system sinks into the abyss of ignorance and scapegoating, the question is whether there will be enough voters who realize it’s all been a con, who realize the incredible stupidity and mendacity of some of the idiots Trump has been appointing, or whether there will be a move towards the idea of “not enough Trumpists in charge, that’s the problem!”. I’m not sure if I’m quite as pessimistic yet as you are about how this will play out, but I do agree that those are the parameters. But then again, there’s the famous H.L. Mencken quote, “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”

It would be the entire developed world against the US, with Putin sitting on the sidelines egging Trump on.

And I have 50€ on Merkel in a celebrity death match. “Thees ees how vee deal mit boolees in Der Vaterland, Herr Drumpf.” _crack_
