Yes, yes, and yes – America has always had anti-intellectual instincts. The story of America is one of conquering the brutal terrain and living conditions and moving gradually from one side of the country to the other, not sitting in candle-lit rooms and ruminating over the meaning of our existence until 3 a.m. Americans are more about grit and cunning than they are intellect. We respect that old dude on PBS who built his own cabin and lived out in the wilderness for 30 years a lot more than your average public health wonk, probably because we assume that the guy who felled those big trees and lived off his own kills could have been a scientist had he wanted to be, but have a hard time believing that Tony Fauci could live in the woods off his own kills. And besides, we just don’t really appreciate authority from afar in any form. We’ve always been like this. The difference now is, idiots have their own microphone, printing press, and TV channels. Every moron has a stage. ---

So then according to this warped logic Obama should get a third term because Moscow Mitch promised to make him a 1-term president and blocked his Supreme Court nomination. I wonder what would happen if trump wins in 2020 (shudder) and then in 2024 (if there were anything left of this country by then) actually started running for a third term? Would the GOP just go “yup sounds good to us,” skip any primaries and just nominate him again? This all supposes we’d even bother with the appearance of elections at that point of course. ---

I doubt it. They are scrupulous when it comes to the constitution. Just look at how carefully they are parsing the words, “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” to explain why Harris isn’t eligible. Of course, with that much attention to detail, they wouldn’t just ignore the 22nd Amendment, would they?
