Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman is retiring from the military due to ‘bullying, intimidation and retaliation’. The White House was apparently going to try to block any attempt to promote him to Colonel. So a patriotic member of the military with an unimpeachable record of service is punished for doing the right thing, while the dangerous idiot in the White House is still allowed to do and say whatever he wants. This is so disgusting. I know (or at least am optimistic) that someday things will reset, and we’ll look back on these as dark times for our country; the name of trump will be forever synonymous with abject incompetence, horrible cruelty and maybe even treason. She was just faced with the impossible choice of trying to work with Trump, or gambling on what kind of idiot Trump would replace her with. Given the levels of Trump’s pettiness and vindictiveness, there’s not really a third way for people in her position. Even if she were to make statements later walking back Trump’s worst stupidities, all that would accomplish is to get her fired. ---

Yes. Even though astronaut children are at low risk to develop hands covered with eyes, they can still transmit hand eyes to others. ---

The CDC issued guidelines that schools _could_ use to determine whether or not to re-open with students physically present. This pissed off Trump, who thought they were too strict and stood in the way of his “damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” reopening plan. So the CDC is making edits. Remember when our science and technology was the envy of the world? When everyone looked to the CDC as a model? ---

I read an article recently about the CDC’s role (or lack of it) in the pandemic. It quoted a public health official in a foreign country (can’t recall the details) who – to paraphrase – wondered what the hell is going on here? That it used to be whenever any health department in the world had a puzzling problem, their first call was to Atlanta. Those days are gone, thanks to Trump. ---
