Sounds familiar, but in the longer-than-the-tax-code list of awful things Trump does, some of them kind of get lost in the crowd.

I’m still not clear on what, if anything, Trump has done or is supposed to have done to further the rapprochement of the Koreas ; unless we posit that NK’s military junta was brought to its knees by weaponized Twitter name calling.

My department for small county government assigns street addresses. Some rules can’t be broken (odd even sides of the street). We do avoid things like 666. As long as the range is right and doesn’t cause problems. We do try to leave room on larger properties for growth/lot splits, new developments. We would be OK with changing a 666 to 664 or 668. Now this may not work in NYC. The building may be bordered by a 664 and 668. Also, you would have to consider how many people this could affect in the building.

A funny story - I assigned addresses for a new development. A small one perhaps 20 addresses on a new street. The developer was to live on a particular lot that I had assigned the number 10. His numerologist (!?) said he shouldn’t live under that address. Since it was a brand new street and development, it was no problem for me to bump all address by 2 so he lived on 12.

We also approve new street names to avoid duplication and confusion. Lake View is right out. But we do now have a Barking Dog Lane. 🙂

I’ve seen some weird shit when developers where allowed to assign their own addresses. From years ago, one decided to address the first floor with STREET address of the 100’s, the second floor with 1000’s and the third floor with 10000’s. Of course this screws up the address for the entire rest of the street that is only a few miles long. I think this short street now has address up to the 90000’s. It’s a mess. :smack:

Who picks the names? I want a neighborhood with Lois Ln., Della St., and Margaret Ct.

We have driven past Lois Ln dozens of times – it is between Yachats and Waldport on 101, so surely hundreds of thousands of people have noticed it in passing. I am waiting to see a cannabis shop appear near there, where they will rename the side street to Bud Ct.

Just watched trump talking about the NK thing, and to me the noteworthy thing was the torrent of ignorance he begins with on trade.

e.g. “Trade has been a one-way street”, “We lose $800 billion a year…they’re getting away with murder!”. And, apparently “no-one negotiates on trade deals”
(These quotes are all from memory)

Really surreal to watch a studio panel then debate his comments as if they were reasoned arguments put forward by an adult, instead of just face-palming and calling it a day.

And it’s amazing how many people who also are purportedly educated adults will just lap up his inanities.

Referring to the bold.

The press both wittingly and unwittingly aids Trump’s normalization, and it’s dangerous. For the moment, he might seem like nothing more than a relatively obnoxious but otherwise entertaining and benign populist. Normalizing his astounding ignorance, normalizing his endless stream of bald faced lies, and normalizing his violation of political norms will eventually have consequences that undermine democracy as we know it.

I believe the theory goes that by making a credible threat of nuclear war against N. Korea Trump was able to force Kim Jong Un to come to the table and deal with sane people. The downside to unhinged lunatic saves world by scaring it straight is that it might cause other people or the same person to try it again and it shouldn’t have worked the first time.

The developer picks the names. They usually go with some sort of theme. Animals, minerals and so on. This is encouraged. If they don’t want to pick a name, we just assign it a county road number. But that doesn’t happen anymore.

It’s mostly to prevent duplicates because that can cause issues with emergency services. All the names you suggested would be fine and I would whole heartily agree with them.

It turns into a battle when developers put the cart before the horse and spend thousands on advertising for their new project before it’s approved (we also approve subdivision/condo names as they are often used in locating an area, we don’t allow duplicates there either).

Heh. I live in a remote ‘subdivision’ (in a different county that I work), and at one time the county wanted to rename all our roads because of duplicates. Owners where contacted to suggest new names. The county wanted bird names as a theme. OK. My Wife and I are the only full time resident on our road, and I was going to suggest ‘Chicken Crossing Road’ or as a back up ‘Loon Lane’. Well, it never came to fruition, and we all still have the old road names. (It can be a colossal pain in the ass to change a road name, I suspect they just gave up)

This has been one of my biggest gripes from Day One: treating him as normal.

To go back to my familiar conceit: he’s like Grandpa who comes to Sunday dinner with his underpants on his head. The first few times he does it, people are shocked and dismayed. Then it becomes Normal for Him and people say, “Oh, that’s just Grandpa.”

Well now some (not all) of the commentators slide right past the fact that there are underpants on thump’s head, and they’re analyzing the underpants! “Well, briefs, not boxers–whaddayaknow. Yea, but are those Hanes or Jockeys?”

PEOPLE, THE MAN IS RUNNING AROUND WITH UNDERWEAR ON HIS HEAD AND YOU’RE ACTING LIKE IT’S NORMAL!

**Enipla** , this is soooo interesting! I wish you’re start one of those “Ask the guy who names streets” threads. My first husband and I used to throw a 60-mile motor paper route and I was fascinated (and driven nuts) by street naming issues. I’ll bet you have some more really interesting stories! [/aside]

I see Lois Ln in my data with some frequency. It reminds me of when Superman died, found face down in Veronica Lake.

Do you know any developers with a sense of humor?

In the neighborhood where I grew up, all the streets were named for gemstones. And all the streets and houses were intertwined with a golf course. There were no duplicates, exactly, but if you didn’t live there it was a nightmare to try and find your way around.
