Trump’s previous statements on the subject have always included: 1. It may have been Russia, maybe not, Putin said no, could be others. 2. It was Obama’s fault. 3. I won anyway in a huge landslide. 4. There was no collusion. Absolutely no difference in today’s version of the above. OK, maybe #1 took a little nudge towards reality. But he added: 1. Yay, intelligence services! His previous statements in that regard were along the lines of: these guys screwed up on Iraq’s WMD, so what do they know. ---

Nobody serious has argued that Russian activity determined the outcome of the election. Obama was speaking _after_ Trump won. The point is that Russians _attempted_ to influence the election. ---

The best description was in the UK’s _Daily Mirror_ the next day, referring to Trump as “Putin’s Poodle”. Here’s the thing to remember. In 1961 Kennedy and Khrushchev met for the first time in Vienna. Kennedy was about 1,424,982 times smarter than Trump, but the cunning Khrushchev assessed him as inexperienced and weak. Kennedy went out of that summit feeling it had gone very badly, as it indeed it had, though not nearly as comically badly as yesterday’s summit. Two months later, the Berlin wall went up, and remained up for more than 28 years. One year later, Khrushchev moved nuclear missiles into Cuba, plunging the world to the very brink of nuclear war. ---
