[CNN aired the Trump-Cohen phone recording where the two of them discuss payment to the Playmate in 2016.](https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/24/politics/michael-cohen-donald-trump-tape/index.html) Not the highest quality recording in the world, but Trump did suggest making the payment in cash, which is not what Rudy G claimed. ---

Avenatti is actually harming the cause; he and his client are a bunch of goddamned showboats (well, mostly he). People can easily conflate Mueller’s work with his antics, and reach the conclusion that Mueller’s also a showboat and that we’re just watching politics as usual. ---

When I listen to it, I hear what I think is “ **don’t** pay cash” with the “don’t” partially muffled by something Cohen was saying, and then the word “check.” Although I’m not sure that’s a good thing. There’s an implied “this time,” which just raises more questions. If I was making some kind of dubious payment, I don’t think I’d need to specify that I didn’t want my lawyer to send over a brown bag of unmarked bills unless I’d done that exact thing in the past. ---
