I could only barely stomach watching the 1-minute clip of him being laughed at, but from browsing the transcript I gather that Trump stood in front of world leaders and diplomats at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City and delivered a campaign stump speech to his red-state base. ---

Frim a earlier post somewhere, I understand FOX didn’t give his UN appearance top billing. It came after a story about an alligator or something?? 😕 Dang. I guess that whole trip was a waste of time. ---

This will only harden the resolve of the hard right’s mission to sever ties between the US and UN. We’ll probably just stop funding it, which is probably fine with so many of the world’s autocratic countries. Problem is, that will remove what has functioned as a forum to negotiate international conflict. No, it can’t prevent conflict or war, but it has been a body that has expedited transitions to peace and has served to avert conflict in some instances. The idea of the UN spawned other agencies, such as the IAEA. We’re perilously close to moving back to a time when global politics and economics were defined more by competition than cooperation. That’s how WWIII starts. ---
