I think the U.S. continued to have a lower GINI than Britain during most of the 19th century … even with slaves included. (Britain and Holland had the highest per capita incomes on the planet during most of the 18th and 19th centuries.) Income inequality over the centuries is an interesting topic. Someone should start an an IMHO thread on the topic. ---

Here’s an excerpt from [Michael Lewis’ new book, about the Trump transition team.](https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/sep/27/this-guy-doesnt-know-anything-the-inside-story-of-trumps-shambolic-transition-team) Pretty depressing reading. Taking Lewis’ assertions as factually correct for the moment, what I found interesting is that Trump never fires anyone face to face. It’s always an intermediary. ---

Check out [this post](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=21238035&postcount=26029). It’s not surprising at all if you know even a little about trump. For him to fire someone requires that person to have done something to require firing. And that means that trump made a mistake in hiring that person in the first place. You can get that vibe from his twitting on twitter about those who’ve already been let go from “his team” in government. ---
