Is it pronounced “yeeee” or “yay”?

Nevermind, I just realized I really don’t give a shit.

You may not, but I find it interesting. Because it seems **we don’t know**. The common nickname for him was pronounced “Yay.” But, when explaining his choice to change his name, he talked about how “ye” is the most common word in the Bible, and referred to its meaning as “you,” saying it means he’s “one of you.”

At any other time in history, I would’ve said, “No; that cannot be true. There’s no way an American president said such a thing”. Today, though, I’m not even a bit startled. But, could you provide a link anyway, please?

Well, of course not. That’s Trump’s job, isn’t it? I don’t think Putin’s looking for a replacement yet. Trump certainly isn’t.

THIS is what I’m talkin’ about:

[Opinion
**Goodbye, Political Spin, Hello Blatant Lies**
_Black is white, up is down, and Republicans are defenders of Medicare._
By Paul Krugman](https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/11/opinion/republicans-lies-medicare-pre-existing-conditions.html?partner=rss&emc=rss)

> [@](#):
>
> Do you remember political spin? Politicians used to deceive voters by describing their policies in misleading ways. For example, the Bush administration was prone to things like claiming that tax breaks for the wealthy were really all about helping seniors — because extremely rich Americans tend to be quite old.
>
> But Republicans no longer bother with deceptive presentations of facts. Instead, they just flat-out lie.
> …
>
> All of which brings me to a remarkable op-ed article on health care in USA Today, which was published under Donald Trump’s name this week. (If he actually wrote it, I’ll eat my hairpiece — although, to be fair, it was rambling and incoherent, suggesting he may have played some role in its composition.)
>
> Part of the article claimed that the Trump administration is defending health insurance for Americans with pre-existing conditions, when the reality is that it has tried to destroy that coverage. But mostly it was an attack on proposals for “Medicare for all,” a slogan that refers to a variety of proposals, from universal single-payer to some form of public option.
>
> And what did “Trump” say Democrats would do? Why, that they would “eviscerate” the current Medicare program. Oh, and that they would turn America into Venezuela. Because that’s what has happened to countries that really do have single-payer, like Canada and Denmark.
>
> Why do Republicans think they can get away with such blatant lies? Partly it’s because they expect their Fox-watching followers to believe anything they’re told.
>
> _ **But it’s also because they can still count on enablers in the mainstream news media.** _ After all, why did USA Today approve this piece? Letting Trump express his opinion is one thing; giving him a platform for blatant lies is another. And as fact-checker Glenn Kessler of The Washington Post put it, “Almost every sentence contained a misleading statement or a falsehood.” Even the president of the United States isn’t entitled to his own facts.
> …

My hysterical emphasis.

You go, Paul! I’ve been saying this all along! The MSM has been treating thump like a normal president, covering what he says and does, quoting his tweets, repeating his lies and attempting to analyze them as though anything he says makes any sense _or isn’t a lie._ FOX news is backing off on continuous coverage of thump and the MSM should do the same! I don’t mean NOT cover him at all, but stop treating him like a normal, intelligent leader and reporting every stupid lie that comes out of his mouth or off his phone. He isn’t normal. He has forfeited the right to be treated like a grownup.

You have indeed been saying that for a long time and so I apologize if I haven’t brought it your attention that the AP adds in quite a few qualifiers when reporting things that Trump said. “he claimed without offering any evidence” or “he said even tho everyone on the planet says differently” or some other qualifier. Their reporting has gotten more focused and included more qualifiers in the past 2 years; they don’t just let him get away with saying whatever he wants.

Almost a thread idea: discerning at exactly what point the mainstream media just might have to recalibrate its basic mandate of objective, unadorned, present-it-as-it-is journalism in light of the increasingly bat-shit insane political environment that’s currently besieging the shit out of it. As previously suggested, perhaps the backing off of continuous coverage is a great idea, yet it’s not without attendant quandries over exactly “what _not_ to print/broadcast?”

I’ve got an idea. There was some bozo on TV a few years back that had this bit where he’d tell people “You’re fired.” His show got cancelled so he probably needs a job. President Trump should find out who that guy was and hire him.

Thanks, but I’m currently _just that bit_ too lazy to actually walk my talk on starting the thread, but who knows - maybe there’ll be an NYT op-ed next week from President Gluteus Fucking Recockulous about somehow conflating the rise of the KKK’s power at the beginning ot the 20th century with Monday Night Football (but then _really_ wanting to talk about staging a Miss America pageant on “the huuugest barge ever” on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool), at which point, sure - I might start one. Or hey - feel free to beat me to it!

Jeez - KW at the UN?

> We’re just starting to feel the effects of the Trump economy. GM and other layoffs are just the warm-up act. Yesterday’s stock slide portends what’s on the horizon. Granted, an 800 drop isn’t what it used to be, not when the index is in the mid to high 20K range, but again, don’t look at the numbers; think about why they’re down. Think about why the interest rates are up. Trump and his moronic supporters can blame the Fed all they want: the Fed has no choice but to raise rates. The bond market is not driven by the fed but by market reaction to risk. Bond buyers know that there’s greater risk and want their investments in the US government to pay greater dividends. We’re looking at trillion dollar deficits every year from here on, and that assumes we don’t have an economic recession, which would curb tax revenues and make the deficit even worse. The market is looking at the Trump / GOP economic formula for what it is: a sham.

The saddest thing about his policies is that there’s a good chance the bill won’t come until after 2020, when their is a decent chance a Democrat will be elected and subsequently blamed for the inevitable recession. That’ll put the fork in Democrats for the proceeding decade. I’m beginning to lean towards a basic understanding of economics being required to vote. Not really but one can dream.
