Lieu’s response is probably close to universal–most people who are paying attention will have assumed from the moment the news broke that Bolton was displaying that notepad on purpose. Floating the idea of a hot war, so to speak. Bolton is a noted lover of hot wars. No doubt he wanted to provide some evidence of public enthusiasm for the idea, to persuade Trump and Jared and Stephen Miller that this is the way to go. ---

Since we’re not having regular press conferences, let’s play a game. Let’s pretend there is one coming up and you are going to be there and guaranteed to ask a question. What would you ask? You know you’re not going to get the truth unless you rattle him so much he accidentally slips up or doesn’t really understand the honest answer is incriminating. Do you try to trick him? Do you try to anger him? Embarrass him? I think I’d go mean and low. “Which of your children do you hope gets the least prison time? Do you want Ivana to take care of Javanka’s kids when they’re in prison or are you going to pull strings so they serve time not-simultaneously?” I mean, it’d be fun to talk about Toad and spray tans and fake hair and stuff, but I feel going after his kids would get the reaction I’d like to see most. ---
