Good thing I’m not a medical professional.

Trump is batshit loony toons. Or a selfish, self centered asshole. Or all of that and more.

While not actually diagnosing somebody is understandable, I would like to point out that the Goldwater “rule” was generated in an era of three networks, multiple newspapers, extremely limited access to the politicians, very little archived video, with and by a generation that little understood publicity as we do now.

Today, however, “being yourself” and being public is far more the norm, and tracking a person as relentlessly visible as Donald Trump has been for 40 years and saying “this guy is exhibiting classic symptoms of X” isn’t, in my _non_-professional opinion, a disservice to the profession, the President, or the American people.

[He later claimed he made up the story.](http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/nugent.asp)

> [@](#):
>
> Questioned about that account some thirty years later (by which time Nugent was known as a staunch political conservative, a supporter of the Republican Party, and an advocate of hunting and gun ownership rights) in an interview with the UK’s Independent newspaper, Nugent disclaimed that previous account of his draft-evading activities as story he had made up and fed to a gullible High Times reporter and asserted that he actually had avoided the draft through the legitimate means of a student deferment
>
> An analysis of Ted Nugent’s Selective Service classification record doesn’t prove or disprove either version of the story. He did indeed receive a high school student deferment (1-S) in 1967 and then (as he stated) a college student deferment (2-S) in 1968. However, he was reclassified as “available for military service” (1-A) in 1969 and then subsequently rejected as a result of a physical examination and given a 1-Y classification. (The 1-Y classification denoted persons “qualified for service only in time of war or national emergency” and was generally assigned to registrants who had exhibited medical conditions that were limiting but not disabling.) After the 1-Y classification was eliminated by the Selective Service at the end of 1971, Nugent was reclassified as 4-F (“registrant not qualified for any military service”).
>
> So, Ted Nugent did have a student deferment for part of the time he was eligible for the Vietnam-era draft, but he also did fail a physical examination and receive a medical exemption (which, as far as we know, he has neither acknowledged nor explained). But in the absence of more specific information about the results of that physical examination and the reasons for his medical exemption, it cannot be ascertained how truthful the account Nugent gave to High Times magazine back in 1977 might be. (Ted Nugent’s press representative did not respond to a request for additional information about this subject.)

This thread could surpass the Stupid Republican Idea of the Day thread.

That thread took 914 days to finish page 70. This thread finished page 70 in just 137 days.

That says something about the stupid being really, really strong with 45.

Well, SRIotD started in March of '09. There have been lulls in Republican stupity worthy of posting about (I think are entire month or longer gaps in the earlier part of the decade, because you cannot always expect performance art to be steady and consistent). This thread specifically hinges on this administration’s continuing existence, which is not much of a certainty. Many of us would like to see this thread end abruptly (preferably soon) due to lack of relevance.

Well, at least there is one quantifiable way in which the Trump presidency has accomplish more in its first hundred days than all that proceeded it.

Just remember, what follows wind and lightning may be worse. Pence is at least marginally competent and just as vile. He and Jeff Sessions would love nothing more than to turn back the clock at least to the 'Fifties, and maybe the Eighteen-Fifties.
