The story was buried on something like page 17, which just adds insult to injury for Trump. ---

All you doomsayers of the last several posts, especially **asahi** , talking about how stupid the American voters are, that we aren’t worthy of living in a democracy any more, and such trash talk. I am so sorry that you are so nearly right. BUT, myself, though I am THIS close ----\>||\<---- to thinking and saying the same thing, I keep reassuring myself with one last sliver of hope every time I find myself thinking that way: No, the majority of American voters _didn’t_ vote for Trump in 2016! A majority voted for Clinton! It was a gruesome aberration of the Electoral College that put Trump where he is. As long as that remains true, I will still, difficult though it is, try to maintain some confidence in the American Voters. The 2020 election will tell. If Trump is voted out of office, my last waning shreds of confidence in American democracy will be vindicated. If Trump is re-elected by an actual majority of voters – awww shit, we Americans, collectively, truly aren’t fit to live in a democracy any more. Either way, Churchill was right – In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve. But if Trump loses the popular vote again but is elected by the Electoral College again – Well, it’s time for some serious Constitutional Amending, if there will ever be an opportunity for that again. ---
