I have no idea how long barges last, or if there is any sort of registry where you could look up the name. Next time there is a Republican majority in both houses of Congress, I suppose we’ll see a rash of Post Offices and other things named after Trump. I’m tempted to suggest that dumpsters be named after him, but I think it’s preferable to have NOTHING named after him. Trump is so enamored of publicity that, like the infant he is, he craves even bad publicity over none at all, and he shouldn’t be given even that. ---

Astonishingly, Mary Singleton survived. Everywhere Singleton tried to settle, protests were so vociferous that authorities removed him. Ultimately he served out the rest of his parole in a trailer on the grounds of San Quentin. Many proposed Singleton be assigned to captain the Flying Dutchman barge, forever cruising the coast and never touching land again. ---

He spent only 8 years in prison for that grisly crime, and murdered another woman after his release. Less than ten years after Singleton was released, [another guy in California](https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/cruel-and-unusual-punishment-the-shame-of-three-strikes-laws-92042/) got a life sentence for shoplifting a pair of white socks that cost $2.50 (under the spiffy three strikes law). Our criminal justice system is insane. ---
