If he _thinks_ he is telling the truth it is because the doctor is lying to him about what he is taking. If the President dies because that doctor just handed over that drug because the President asked for it, guess who goes to prison? ---

All youse people commenting on the Prez taking hydroxydisestablishmentarianchloroquine, note that there’s a [separate thread specifically on that topic](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=896517). Besides the much-discussed dangers of cardiac adverse effects, it can cause a laundry list of other weird side effects, including mental disruptions. In [Post #26](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=22309876&postcount=26) I listed some of them, including hallucinations. Even the esteemed Trump apologist **UltraVires** criticizes Trump for saying this, whether or not he’s actually taking the stuff, at [Post #40](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=22310092&postcount=40). The general consensus in that thread seems to be that Trump is in fact probably lying and not taking the drug. ---
