[Recently Pew Research polls 1000 people in each of several countries](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/what-the-world-thinks-of-trump/) once per year to [learn how they feel about the U.S. and its policies.](http://www.pewglobal.org/) In 2016, 73% of all surveyed “trust[ed] the U.S. President when it comes to world affairs.” In 2017 this figure plummeted to 27%. 2016 was a good year for Obama; in 2015 only 63% had confidence in him but, since some countries were not surveyed in 2016, I’ll use 2015 for the following. In South Korea the plummet was from 88% in 2015 to 17% today; Germany from 73% to 11%; Mexico from 49% to 11%. Thank heavens for Russia, the only country with a substantial rise, 11% to 53%. The pollsters also asked more general questions. “Do you view the U.S. favorably or unfavorable?” In Mexico the 2015 result was 66 to 29. For 2017 this almost completely reversed: 30 to 65. The French also changed their view, with the U.S. favorable number falling from 73 to 46. ---

Perhaps Mr. Trump’s address before the UN today will provide that little extra push. ---

If I were in that room, I’d have cameras trained on every senior aide’s face. It has to take incredible self control to not wince or otherwise react to what Trump is saying. Definitely wouldn’t want to play poker with those crazy assholes. ---

He didn’t mention “Crooked Hillary,” boast about his historic Electoral College win, or mock the failing Emmy awards show for losing all its viewers thanks to unfunny losers like Alec Baldwin— so on my personal scale of Abysmally Low Expectations, his speech was a phenomenal success. Sad! ---

Later on he made a reference to “loser terrorists”…as if “winner terrorists” were a thing. It was like a live version of _The Trump Twitter Show_. ---

I can’t believe Trump really understood what he was getting himself in for when he nominated Jon Huntsman to be US ambassador to Russia.
