Yeah, at this point, any visual evidence will be immediately dismissed as a deepfake or AI-generated.

Very likely. Just one more way Trump has corroded, even endangered, American democracy: hard truths can be instantly rejected as “fake news.”

Another way is how he’s gotten his minions, both in political office and the magaflatearther on the street, to proudly proclaim the United States of America is not a democracy.

> The spat between Elon Musk and Donald Trump over the President’s “[big, beautiful bill](https://autos.yahoo.com/donald-trump-elon-musks-relationship-142759744.html)” reached a public boiling point on Thursday with a flurry of furiously typed social media posts. In one post, [the SpaceX CEO](https://autos.yahoo.com/public-opinion-turned-tesla-spacex-182500069.html) threatened to immediately decommission the company’s Dragon spacecraft. With the Boeing Starliner still struggling to be certified to fly, the threat poses a unique dilemma for NASA because the Crew Dragon is the agency’s only means of shuttling astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

&

> [@](#):

> NASA’s emergency option isn’t a desirable one; Russia. In the nine-year gap between the Space Shuttle’s final mission in 2011 and the SpaceX Crew-1 flight, America’s space agency relied on Roscosmos to get astronauts to the ISS. NASA would have to cut a deal with Russia’s space program to schedule a Soyuz launch to complete the crew rotation.

>
> U.S. District Judge Myong Joun last month [blocked the efforts](https://www.yahoo.com/news/judge-blocks-trump-layoffs-order-151725397.html), ordering the administration to reinstate nearly 1,400 laid off employees and take other actions to reverse the president’s directives.
>
> “Each day this preliminary injunction remains in effect subjects the Executive Branch to judicial micromanagement of its day-to-day operations,” Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote in the new application.
>
> It marks the Trump administration’s 19th emergency plea to the Supreme Court since taking office.

I should note that if in the space of five months, you need to request relief from court orders for your behavior, maybe, just maybe, your behavior is a problem.

[Speaking of problematic behavior](https://www.yahoo.com/news/dhs-wants-national-guard-search-034817419.html), let’s have the **National Guard** go on a hunt for unaccompanied children, round them up, and ship them to parts uknown.

> [@](#):
>
> A Department of Homeland Security request for 21,000 National Guard troops to support “expansive interior immigration enforcement operations” includes a call for troops to search for unaccompanied children in some cases and transport them between states, three sources briefed on the plan told NBC News.
>
> Having National Guard troops perform such tasks, which are not explained in detail in the DHS request, has prompted concern among Democrats in Congress and some military and law enforcement officials.
>
> The tasks are laid out in a May 9 request for assistance from the Department of Homeland Security to the Pentagon. The document states that “this represents the first formal request by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for the deployment of National Guard personnel in support of interior immigration enforcement operations.”

Cadet Bonespurs sure does love throwing the military around, doesn’t he? [And his flunky Pete wants to send in the Marines](https://www.yahoo.com/news/stephen-miller-calls-mass-la-213239064.html).

Besides the illegality of this stunt, it also shows that the felon-in-chief very well could have called out the Washington DC National Guard _at any damn time he wanted to_ way back on January 6, 2021.

Of course the driving force behind [this executive order](https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-executive-order-takes-steps-230222022.html) is Biden and Obama issued orders which this one modifies.

I’m going to assume that doing so in any state would be covered by the Posse Comitatus Act. If there was some mechanism for “federalizing the National Guard” then it certainly would.

(I believe the National Guard were called on in VietNam and Iraq yet Posse Comitatus limits what Federal Troops may do domestically)

Oh course it was Ohio’s Governor Rhodes who called in the National Guard at Kent State. I’ll grant ol’ Neil some poetic license and who knows what Nixon may eventually have tried to see if he could do.

We’ve discussed it before and there’s probably no definitive prediction to be had, but I have to think that it won’t be too long before soldiers become overwhelmed by “riot control fatigue.”

It was the first significant [military occupation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_occupation) of Los Angeles by federal troops since the 1894 [Pullman Strike](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pullman_Strike),[[118]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Los_Angeles_riots#cite_note-118) and also the first federal military intervention in an American city to quell a civil disorder since the 1968 [King assassination riots](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_assassination_riots), and the deadliest modern unrest since the [1980 Miami riots](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980_Miami_riots) at the time, only 12 years earlier.[_[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)_]
>
> These federal military forces took 24 hours to deploy to [Huntington Park](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntington_Park,_California), about the same time it took for the National Guard.[_[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)_] This brought total troop strength to 13,500, making LA the largest military occupation of any US city since the [1968 Washington, D.C. riots](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Washington,_D.C.,_riots). Federal troops joined National Guard soldiers to support local police in restoring order directly; the combined force contributed significantly to preventing violence.[_[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)_] With most of the violence under control, 30,000 people attended an 11 a.m. peace rally in Koreatown to support local merchants and racial healing.[[94]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Los_Angeles_riots#cite_note-:6-94)

AIUI, the Marines aren’t allowed to act as law enforcement. I’m not sure this admin cares. I can see Trump telling Hegseth to order the troops to start bashing heads and “shooting protesters in the leg”.

Yeah, that would be a fairly common sight on my Facebook feed if I still had an account today.

At the heart of MAGA ideology is nativism. They’re not misspeaking when they type or say the word _invaders_ to refer to the migrants. They really believe that, never mind the fact that probably 45-50% of US-based agricultural labor is undocumented workers.

Or that our family came over comparatively recently—our common ancestors were immigrants, and we grew up on stories of family that came over, engaged in criminal activity, and never learned English. Apparently it was all right for us! But as been said elsewhere, Republicans seem not to mind hypocrisy.

Exactly right. Copilot tells me that 45% of our agricultural labor is undocumented immigrants, while an astounding 86% of that workforce is foreign-born.

And interestingly, it is the rural areas, who could not survive without the foreign born, who overwhelmingly voted for trump.
In Germany, OTOH, it is the former Eastern Germany, aka the communist one, where almost no foreigners live or ever want to go, who vote for the fascist AfD.
Stupidity, ignorance and bigottry do not make sense. And you can’t argue people out of stupid. Ignorance, OTOH, well… perhaps you can, but it takes a long time.

One recent estimate put it at something like 47-49% but I won’t go to the mat on statistics. It’s the same ballpark figure.

It seems that there’s been pushback from farmers on going after their undocumented labor, but I have to think that at some point, some of these workers are going to freak out at the thought of ending up in one of these detention centers, which, as I understand it, is not a pleasant experience. I’m sure that no prison or jail is pleasant but I’ve heard and read over the years that these are particularly harsh.

Would have to think that they’ll probably bolt at some point, during a time when we’re imposing significant tariffs on imported goods no less.

Certainly longer than we thought.
