Doublethink? Double? Friend, on a very good day, they’re lucky if they’ve even gotten to the point of _half_think!

[In other news, SCOTUS (_Send in the Clowns of Trump’s Unbelievable Shit_, I guess), gave the felon a win. No word on how that will impact the EO on birthright citizenship.](https://www.yahoo.com/news/supreme-court-limits-nationwide-injunctions-141830512.html)

> [@](#):
>
> WASHINGTON (AP) — A united conservative majority of [the Supreme Court](https://apnews.com/hub/us-supreme-court) ruled Friday that federal judges lack the authority to grant nationwide injunctions, but the decision left unclear whether [President Donald Trump](https://www.yahoo.com/people/donald-trump/)’s restrictions on [birthright citizenship](https://apnews.com/article/birthright-citizenship-immigration-trump-20919d26029cf0f98ecb0dc7f90a066b) could soon take effect in parts of the country.
>
> [The outcome](https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25985278-trump-v-casa/) represented a victory for Trump, who has complained about judges throwing up obstacles to his agenda. Nationwide, or universal, injunctions had emerged as an important check on the Republican president’s efforts to expand [executive power](https://apnews.com/article/trump-democracy-autocrats-authoritarian-constitution-threat-542ac437a58880e81c052f8f2df1643f) and remake the government and a source of mounting frustration to him and his allies.
>
> But the court left open the possibility that the birthright citizenship changes could remain blocked nationwide. Trump’s order would deny citizenship to U.S.-born children of people who are in the country illegally or temporarily.
>
> The cases now return to lower courts, where judges will have to decide how to tailor their orders to comply with the high court ruling, which was written by Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Enforcement of the policy can’t take place for another 30 days, Barrett wrote.
>
> Even then it’s unclear whether the court’s decision could produce a confusing patchwork of rules that might differ in the 22 states that sued over the Trump order and the rest of the country.

Yeah. He’s a bully and a con artist; if the other side fails to be either intimidated or fooled, then he’s out of options. If nothing else his conviction that all agreements are supposed to be completely one-sided and his disinterest in keeping his side of any agreement he _does_ enter into means he has _negative_ skill at deal-making.

His success is a combination of privilege, appealing to people’s worst impulses, and as a living proof of the phrase “there’s a sucker born every minute”. MAGA demonstrates that suckers are a _major demographic,_ in fact.

ISTM that he always emerges from negotiations holding the dirty end of the stick. He boasts about is ‘Big Incredible – No On’e Ever Seen Agreement As Good As This – Agreement’, while the other side is laughing up their sleeves at how The Great Negotiator got snookered. Like when Trump gave Syria to Russia, or when his tariffs induced China to buy their grain from Russia instead of the United States, or giving classified information (I don’t remember in exchange for what – Praise fromPutin) to Russia…

Hm. I think I’m detecting a pattern. But it seems that the one agreement that I can think of that he actually competed this year (with the UK), was less advantageous for us than he ‘thinks’.

I remember seeing some documentary on Trump and there was a segment on his history of stiffing the contractors who worked on his Atlantic City casinos. Trump wouldn’t pay them, or pay less than the agreed upon amount, citing substandard work and then threaten to sue them and blacklist their companies to drive them out of business if they pushed back. I guess that works to certain extent with small businesses but I don’t think his experience with that tactic applies to countries.

I hope this passes. Who am I and what happend to Monty, you ask? I assure you I am he and nothing has happened to me. Here’s why I hope this makes it into law (and my apologies for the all caps):

Trump wouldn’t pay them, or pay less than the agreed upon amount, citing substandard work and then threaten to sue them and blacklist their companies to drive them out of business if they pushed back.

At the time the casinos were being built in Atlantic City I was living in Pennsylvania and read an article in the _Philadelphia Inquirer_ specifically about Trump’s practices. A contractor said that when he and the others in the area would bid on putting up a Trump property the bid would be much higher than usual; he called it the Trump surcharge. That way if he actually paid it off they’d make out like bandits but when he inevitably stiffed them, they’d make at least a little bit on the job.

Frequently somebody new would come along and submit a bid without the surcharge, handily win because he was less than anybody else, and be driven into bankruptcy when they didn’t get paid.

> The T1′s webpage now says the phone has “American-Proud Design” and is “brought to life right here in the USA” — though it’s unclear if that means it will actually be manufactured in America.

No, it’s entirely clear since those phrases translate to _THIS (insert item here) WAS NOT MADE ANYWHERE NEAR AMERICA_ in English.

The ‘brought to life’ makes me think the battery was installed here, and that’s it.

Like the guy who walked into a fish monger’s. “How much are those trout in the case there?”

“Ten dollars a pound.”

“Great. I’ll take four.”

The fish are weighed out wrapped up, and the label slapped on. After he pays the amount the customer backs up five feet. “Now, toss me the package.”

… “Okay. Why?”

“I’ve been out fishing all day with no luck and I want to tell the wife I caught these.”
