IIRC, children under one year of age do not need a SSN on the 1040.

Not in my experience as a volunteer tax preparer. If you want to claim a child as a dependent, a SSN is required on the tax return. At least in the software that we use, which is Tax Slayer.

ETA: verified by the IRS:

> **[Dependents 9 | Internal Revenue Service](https://www.irs.gov/faqs/filing-requirements-status-dependents/dependents/dependents-9)**
>
> My daughter was born at the end of the year. We're still waiting for a Social Security number. May I file my return now and provide her Social Security number later?

> If you file your return claiming your daughter as a dependent and don’t provide her Social Security number (SSN) on your return, the IRS will not allow you to claim her as a dependent.

I don’t see any such exception on the IRS website or their FAQ here:

In this clip, Trump explains to Maria Bartiromo that the Iranians couldn’t have moved their uranium in time before the strikes because it’s “very, very, heavy”

[Did Iran hide uranium before the US’ air strike? Trump clears the air](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjIT-wve1Tc)

I guessing someone once told Trump that uranium is a heavy element, but was talking about its atomic weight and Trump didn’t understand.

I’m reminded of the “trick” question “What weighs more: a pound of feathers or a pound of rocks?” AIUI, the Iranian uranium was thought to be only a few hundred pounds. Moving it might have required advanced technology such as forklifts and trucks.

It’s like how Trump seems to think stealth aircraft are invisible to the eye, clean coal has been physically washed, and asylum is where Hannibal Lecter was locked up.

I’m starting to suspect Trump’s not the genius that he’s been telling us he is. Trump probably weighs something around 275 lbs (maybe in the ballpark of the weight of the uranium). To quote Lex Luthor in the _Superman_ movie talking about his henchman Otis: “It’s amazing that brain can generate enough power to keep those legs moving.”

Rocks are typically weighed in avoirdupois units, so it should be ‘What weighs more: a pound of feathers or a pound of **gold**?’ (Answer: A troy pound of gold weighs 0.82 avoirdupois pounds.)

Well, moving even 900 pounds of the stuff is trivial is trivial logistically but it would take several trucks because you want [to keep the stuff spread out](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Slotin#Criticality_accident). She has absolutely no idea what she is talking about, strictly 3rd rate. Fortunately, the audience has long ago left CNN, and it will only get WORSE. LOSERS ALL!!!”

I had to snip the beginning and end of that because it’s so short. Do yourself a favor and read the whole thing. Quite funny!

[But this next bit regarding the felon and the press AND CONGRESis not funny at all.](https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-threatens-force-journalists-reveal-143942860.html)

> [@](#):
>
> [Donald Trump](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/donald-trump) threatened in an interview Sunday to force journalists who published an initial U.S. intelligence assessment of his administration’s strikes on [Iran](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/iran) to reveal their sources as his effort to plaster a positive narrative over the aftermath continues.
>
> The U.S. president spoke on _Sunday Morning Futures_ with [Maria Bartiromo](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/maria-bartiromo), and insisted once again that U.S. airstrikes targeting three Iranian facilities last weekend completed the task of disabling the Iranian nuclear weapons development program. The strikes, Trump claimed, obliterated the Iranian government’s entire (or a majority) of its supply of enriched [uranium](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/uranium) — he denied claims from Iranian officials that it was moved out of the area before the Fordow site was hit.
>
> And the president vowed legal action against Democratic members of [Congress](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/congress) and journalists he blamed for publishing parts of a U.S. intelligence assessment of the effects of the three attacks. The administration spent the past week decrying it as one-sided, incomplete, and aimed at producing a narrative critical of the Trump White House.

[“Mister Japan”?](https://www.yahoo.com/news/insane-trumps-baffling-comments-japan-051337949.html) (The **bolding** is mine.)

> [@](#):
>
> President [Donald Trump](https://www.huffpost.com/news/topic/donald-trump) suggested new tariffs on Japan ― but then spaced on the name of the nation’s leader.
>
> Trump told [Fox News](https://www.huffpost.com/news/topic/fox-news) host [Maria Bartiromo](https://www.huffpost.com/topic/maria-bartiromo) he would be sending out letters as his [pause on tariffs](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/donald-trump-pauses-tariffs_n_67f3ecfbe4b0afc2a9d7c2a7) ends early next month and cited [Japan](https://www.huffpost.com/news/topic/japan) as an example.
>
> Rather than name Japanese Prime Minister [Shigeru Ishiba](https://www.huffpost.com/topic/shigeru-ishiba) ― who [he met in February](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/watch-trump-talks-trade-with-japans-prime-minister) at the White House ― Trump appeared to improvise as he described the letter.
>
> **“Dear Mr. Japan: Here’s the story,” Trump said. “You’re going to pay a 25% tariff on your cars.”**
>
> He said it’s “not fair” that the United States takes “millions and millions” of Japanese cars, while Japan takes comparatively few cars from U.S. automakers.
>
> “They won’t take our cars,” Trump said, and suggested that Japan could fix that deficit with other purchases from the United States such as oil.

And he _still_ doesn’t realize it’s the US consumer who pays the tariffs on imported goods. I have no doubt His Excellency Shigeru Ishiba knows this fact.

[The felon has made MS-13 stronger.](https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-deal-got-migrants-shipped-212827704.html)

> [@](#):
>
> [Donald Trump](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/donald-trump)’s efforts to maximize the punishment imposed upon migrants who illegally cross the U.S. border or otherwise run up against immigration law are now directly undermining his administration’s efforts to weaken MS-13, according to a new report.
>
> The violent criminal gang has been a menace in parts of the United States and has also been central to GOP efforts to raise fears about migrant communities in general.
>
> The administration used MS-13 as an example most recently to justify the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, despite not proving any clear links between him and the gang. He was sent to the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador before eventually being returned to the U.S. and Abrego Garcia is currently facing criminal prosecution here.
>
> Now, a [_New York Times_](http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=44681X1458326&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2025%2F06%2F30%2Fus%2Fpolitics%2Ftrump-bukele-ms-13-immigrants.html&sref=/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-el-salvador-cecot-ms13-b2779881.html&uuid=n3ZsOBxvbIYM1dLZ1753)report reveals that the U.S. policy of deporting migrants like Abrego Garcia to CECOT — a headline-grabbing policy that wowed right-wing supporters of Trump’s mass deportation efforts as the [White House](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/white-house) tried to project tough consequences for illegal immigration — is actually aiding the gang’s efforts to evade justice.
>
> The Times, citing interviews with 30 people with knowledge of the multi-agency efforts to prosecute MS-13 and also of U.S.-El Salvador relations, reported that the return of key MS-13 leaders to El Salvador by the Trump administration was hindering efforts to fight the gang.

[And finally, a good bit of news from Murdoch.](https://www.yahoo.com/news/murdoch-paper-warns-trump-just-120622400.html)

> [@](#):
>
> A newspaper owned by tycoon Rupert Murdoch has warned Donald Trump that publicly humiliating one of his own senators might end up crippling his presidency.
>
> Tempers flared over the weekend as the president tore into three GOP veterans—Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie, both of Kentucky, and Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina—for daring to speak out against White House spending proposals currently making their way through the Senate in the form of Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’
>
> Amid threats from the president to back a primary challenger in 2026, Tillis announced Sunday he would not be seeking re-election, [taking to the floor that evening](https://www.yahoo.com/news/gop-senator-thom-tillis-savages-034117919.html) for a fiery speech in which he slammed the president as “misinformed” and advised solely by “amateurs.”
