Actually, adding on, since I realize some assumptions were being made. There are 2 separate things that can happen relating to furloughs and such: the debt ceiling, and the budget Legally, we need a budget to operate. Due in large part to partisan politics, we have not passed a US budget on time in decades. So, we have taken to operating on a series of “continuing resolutions” which fund the government under the basis of the previous years’ budget (often passed well into the following year) for some limited, defined period of time. It is rare (only has happened twice) that Congress does not pass a CR, but negotiations to pass CRs can be contentious. And that’s what happened this time. Congressional Democrats told their counterparts they would not sign off on a CR without restoring ACA subsidies. So, shutdown. That’s separate from the debt ceiling. Even if a budget is passed and exists, for historic reasons (and uniquely among major countries), the US has a debt ceiling. So even if spending is approved by Congress, it needs to also approve an appropriate increase to the debt ceiling. And political parties (most often Republicans for some reason 🙄 ) have held the debt ceiling hostage to get concessions on some of their priorities. If the debt ceiling is hit, several measures, including furloughs, have been used to extend the time until they hit a limit - usually the point when they can’t pay off interest on US government debt. ---

Biden would be too much and we’d have Hillbilly #48. F#47 had no chance unless he got Putin to back off most of what he took, ravaged Ukraine for minerals and brought the soil to a peaceful Gaza and built his resort without booting the native population out. Domestically, not calling the National Guard out on every Democratic city, trying to indict everyone of his few active political foes, especially if they were women and even more so if they were dark skinned. I don’t think the Nobel Committee is ever inclined to explain “why not” like Time explains “why” for their \*otY so he can take his frustrations out on whatever is left of the rose garden, indict Biden and whomever as someone has to pay if he’s not honored. Dunno how much she has or can do in Russian opposition, yet Yuliya Navalnaya, Alexei’s wife, would give both Vladimir and Felon something to bitch about in unison. She just recently said she too was poisoned by Novichuk but not as much as her husband. Win or not, let’s hope she lives to see the Nobels honored. Like Time, they can choose groups so the International Courts / institutions will also make both Putin and DJT unhappy, but only one tweets. Let’s face it, he won’t win and the shitstorm will be laid on the Nobel Committee and whomever wins especially if it’s a woman, while laying out a hundred posts why it should have been him before he turns caps lock off. ---

I saw this bullshit, and I am appalled. Is there any confirmation from other sites about this fiasco? As far as I know Federal Law prohibits placing live people on our coins. ---

That’s explained in the article. There is a law, and there used to be an explainer on the Treasury website, but that page has been removed. Evidently the current cabal believes that if nobody knows about a law it doesn’t count. ---
