And last I checked, maintenance of the nuclear program including any testing was under the auspices of the the DOE, not the DOD. ---

Diesel-electric subs can be _quieter_ than nuclear subs when they rig for silent running, because nuke subs need to run pumps to keep the nuclear pile cooled. Also, diesels can be quite “nimble” as he puts it (most are probably smaller and can turn faster than a comparable nuke boat) - but their effective range is lower than nuclear subs. But why does South Korea need subs that can range way out into the Pacific? The U.S. Navy’s subs need to do that, as they have a global mission, but South Korea mostly needs to defend against North Korea (and possibly China or Russia, in the event of a broader war) but they sure don’t need to put an attack boat, much less a boomer, out east of Japan. All this is, is Donald Trump saying “nuclear is better” without any appreciation of the realities of the situation, and South Korea taking advantage of this to add the shipyard in Philadelphia to the “huge amount of investment” they’re making in America, so they can get a better trade deal out of this malAdministration. ---

What’s so wrong about old fashioned technology when he’s demanding the aircraft carriers to use old technology? Why does South Korea need a nuclear powered submarine? They don’t. And given a fairly recent stunt which got a Korean president impeached, I’d say South Korea having control over nuclear weapons is likely not a recommended course of action either. Yes, this is not only the felon saying nuclear is better, but the same felon not understanding the difference between nuclear power and nuclear weapons. @Fear_Itself There’s no way I’d bet against you on that. And that’ll be before the end of the year. Hey, I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to get an atmospheric test done _today_ to pressure Xi.
