Just saw this on Reddit. Mikey has some ideas for the Democrats.
Do you think this is code for, _"Please do this and put me out of my misery!’_

> Johnson: “If we lose the majority… They will try to end the Trump administration. He won’t have 4 years. He’ll have only 2, because they will move to impeach him, probably on the first day of the new Congress in January 2027 and try to systematically unwind all the important reforms that we’ve done”

Communist South Africa is doing reasonably well, thank you, Mr. Trump. We have the bigliest economy in Africa, and are probably the most influential.

Yes, we did have Zuma as president, which was as big a mistake as Trump’s election, and yes, we as a country did pay an unreasonable amount of money for Zuma’s home improvements… I think I might see something of a pattern there.

I listened to the entire hearing. Gorsuch, Barrett, and _perhaps_ Roberts could join with Kagan, Brown, and Sotomayor in striking down the tariffs. Alito seemed to be asking questions just to pretend that he was being open to arguments, but it sounded performative. Kavanaugh as well. It’s really a toss-up.

Painful to listen to.

The tariff case plaintiff’s attorney, Neal Katyal, is with one of the law firms which has to pony up $100 million worth of pro bono work as dictated by the trump administration in order to have access to government buildings, etc. I wonder how much restitution _this_ little escapade is going to cost them.

Katyal has been a regular guest on various MSNBC shows, as a legal commentator, for a number of years. He’s very sharp, and I wasn’t surprised to learn that he’s representing the plaintiffs in this case.

Yes, the two plaintiffs were instructed to combine their arguments into one, with only one of their attorneys arguing for the both of them. The other plaintiff’s attorney was equally qualified. Katyal won the coin toss (literally, that’s how they decided which attorney would argue the case). He’s argued 52 cases in front of the SC.

Officials did not respond to questions about why agents drove the man’s car away with the child.

Why do I find that scenario unlikely? Anyway, let’s hope there are follow-up reports as this case wends it way through the courts. That is, assuming the US citizen arrested isn’t sent to a prison overseas without notice.

Here’s something nobody seems to be discussing much (unless I missed it). Not only is this government shutdown affecting the troops themselves, it’s also affecting the family members. Yes, I know that’s been discussed. But here’s something else to talk about. We currently have a number of active duty service members and their families using SNAP at the commissaries. The commissaries, last I heard, in the United States are closed for the duration. Overseas commissaries are not and still accept SNAP, but, of course, if there are no funds on the SNAP card, there’s nothing to accept.

Fuck it. While the felon’s still in office, I’ll never refer to his mal/misadministration as _government_ again. _Five fingers thrust in a circle_ should be appropriate.\*

_Please tell me that doesn’t date me. If you’re curious, think about a gesture that exression describes._

> Air traffic controllers have been working unpaid since the shutdown began Oct. 1, and most have been on duty six days a week while putting in mandatory overtime. With some calling out of work due to frustration, taking second jobs or not having money for child care or gas, staffing shortages during some shifts have led to [flight delays](https://apnews.com/article/flight-delays-cancellations-government-shutdown-5034216cb5bb41bd40e27bb7861b2dd3) at a number of U.S. airports.

Which markets, which flights?

> FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford, citing growing staffing pressures and safety reports indicating growing fatigue among air traffic controllers, said he and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy did not want to wait until the situation reached a crisis point.
>
> “We’re not going to wait for a safety problem to truly manifest itself when the early indicators are telling us we can take action today to prevent things from deteriorating,” Bedford said. “The system is extremely safe today and will be extremely safe tomorrow. If the pressures continue to build even after we take these measures, we’ll come back and take additional measures.”
>
> He and Duffy said they would meet with airline executives later Wednesday to determine how to implement the reduction in flights. Bedford said a list of the selected airports would be released sometime Thursday.

We’re three weeks from Thanksgiving, folks. Do you expect the jive turkey in the remains of the White House and his flunkies in Congress to get this fixed before then?

> Inside the White House, there are two main takeaways from Tuesday’s miserable performance for the Republican Party.
>
> The first one — that fielding quality candidates matters — is the one GOP officials are eagerly messaging.
>
> **But the second, perhaps more existential issue, is that President Donald Trump isn’t focused enough on the issues that matter most to the voters the party needs.**
>
> **“People don’t think he’s lived up to his promises,” said one White House ally, who like others in this story was granted anonymity to discuss internal thinking. “You won on lowering costs, putting more money back into people’s pockets. And people don’t feel that right now.”**

> Didn’t one of his acolytes, the so-called governor of Texas, already threaten to place tariffs on New Yorkers coming to Texas if Mamdani wins? Yeah, you and I know the constitution prohibits that, but does the felon and his acolytes? Do they even care?

But what the fuck does that even _mean_? What does putting a “tariff” on a human being look like?
