Har-de-har-har. Turkey is so lame, amirite?
It sounds like something one would say to people who are in fact not getting a turkey dinner, and they want to soften the blow by criticizing it. “Who wants icky old turkey anyway!?” Like the sour grapes defence.

What an awesome, loving, inspiring message. Crappy Thanksgiving, Couch Boy.

I hate to admit it, but I’m with Vance on this one. Cook a turkey as well as you can - I’d still prefer chicken.

Are all of these troops pretty much required to attend events with the VP? Is it expected that the rank and file are all present?

And is “deep frying” a Turkey when you use a presumably new galvanized garbage can (if you don’t have a giant cauldron) about half filled with hot oil and place the (hopefully defrosted) bird inside? I know often there’s stories of people who toss a frozen turkey in, with interesting results.

I’d think if done right, deep frying a turkey would be pretty tasty.

They make home turkey fryers. I’ve used one once that was electric, so less worry about starting a fire. The key is to measure how much liquid the turkey will displace so you don’t overkill it, and then to make sure the turkey is fully defrosted and patted dry before going in. It takes about half an hour to fry your standard bird.

As for Vance - as per usual, he manages to make perfectly nice and normal things weird. It’s like that time he tried to buy doughnuts.

Worse. It involved him walking up to the counter in a doughnut shop and being unable to [just order doughnuts like a normal human being](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDvkt2VkArg).

Or [to sum up](https://www.vanityfair.com/style/story/tim-walz-does-what-jd-vance-cant-purchase-pastries-like-a-human-being?srsltid=AfmBOooDn4A3HHiTFgggbs7lexFqRBjiznFHyUsUltc_WVGTzIzYkRpm):

> [@](#):

> In the video, Vance asks several employees how long they’ve worked there, replying to each with, “Okay, good,” as if he’s been sent to fact-check some very specific timeline of doughnut enterprise developments. How long has the shop been open, he wonders? “About four years.” This is also met with an, “Okay, good.” The conversational struggle continues while actually ordering the pastries, as Vance flaps his hand in kind of a defeated way, mumbling “a lot of glazed here, some sprinkles stuff, some of these cinnamon rolls.” It’s less an order and more of a stream of consciousness narration of a man encountering sprinkles in the wild for the very first time. He has heard of them, but now that he’s come face to face with them, wonders how to even comprehend such wonders. He eventually gives up: “Just whatever makes sense.”

And of course there’s this:

I’ve done it. Do not do it near anything flammable. I did it in our gravel drive. Oil tends to go everywhere. I was able to just start a fire on the driveway afterward to get rid of any splashed oil. That worked pretty well.

Why in the hell is JD rambling on about this?

Ribbons and medals represent the same award. Medals are worn on formal occasions, while the ribbons are used for non-formal occasions. The ribbon from which a medal is suspended from is the same as the ribbon that does not have a medal hanging from it.

But the point is, some awards are just a ribbon. There are no medals associated with those awards. Those are the ones that the Navy puts on the right side of the uniform when in formal occasions.

I was in the Air Guard, which is part of the Air Force. I’ll admit I have no idea what the Air Force does with the non-medal awards in formal uniform. I think they just don’t wear them, but I never had to wear a formal uniform.

Not really. For medals, there is both a medal and a ribbon. The ribbon is worn instead of the medal when the requirement is to wear the ribbons, such as when wearing the “working blues”. When the requirment is to wear dress blues with medals, then the medals are worn on the left breast and the ribbons for awards which are only ribbons are worn on the right breast in mirror image to where they would appear were they to be worn on the left breast. The key to remember is “higher award is worn closer to the heart”.

There are many awards which are only ribbons. One example is the [Navy “E” ribbon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_%22E%22_Ribbon). As you can tell from the name, it’s a ribbon, not a medal. An example of a medal is [Navy Cross](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_Cross) When medals are not worn, the Navy Cross ribbon is worn on the left breast. Note this is Navy procedure, not Army, for wearing awards.

And I _still_ have’t been able to find a picture of the “offending” rack that’s gotten war criminal Hegseth up in arms.
