I know logic isn’t to be found anywhere near this man, but the claim that the autopen is not allowed to be used without authorization from the President of the United States and therefore when a former President of the United States used it, it was illegal is hurting my brain.

So we’re murdering fishermen and human trafficking victims on the pretense that they’re “narco-terrorists”… but Trump also wants to pardon the guy who was just sentenced to 45 years in prison for smuggling cocaine into the US.

[Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! The felon does not want to welcome people from poor countries.](https://www.aol.com/articles/trump-vows-permanently-pause-migration-053155381.html)

> [@](#):

> WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — [President Donald Trump](https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump) says he wants to “permanently pause migration” from poorer nations and is promising to seek to expel millions of immigrants from the United States by revoking their legal status. He is blaming immigrants for problems from crime to housing shortages as part of “social dysfunction” in America and demanding “REVERSE MIGRATION.”
>
> His most severe social media post against immigration since returning to the Oval Office in January came after the shooting Wednesday of two National Guard members who were patrolling the streets of the nation’s capital under his orders. [One died](https://apnews.com/article/national-guard-shooting-white-house-afghan-national-138fbe6872d7ac30b20973783b39002c) and the other is in critical condition.
>
> A 29-year-old Afghan national who worked with the CIA during the Afghanistan War is facing charges. The suspect came to the U.S. as part of a program to resettle those who had helped American troops after U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
>
> Trump’s threat to stop immigration would be a serious blow to a nation that has long defined itself as welcoming immigrants.
>
> Since the shooting not far from the White House, administration officials have pledged to reexamine millions of legal immigrants, building on a 10-month campaign to reduce the immigrant population. In a lengthy social media post late Thursday, the Republican president asserted that millions of people born outside the U.S. and now living in the country bore a large share of the blame for America’s societal ills.

But here’s the felon’s kryptonite: evidence.

>
> “With few exceptions, studies conducted at both the aggregate and individual levels demonstrate that high concentrations of immigrants are not associated with increased levels of crime and delinquency across neighborhoods and cities in the United States," it said.
>
> A [study](https://www.nber.org/papers/w31440) by economists initially released in 2023 found immigrants are 60% less likely to be incarcerated than people born in the U.S. Immigrants have been imprisoned at lower rates for 150 years, the study found, adding to past research undermining Trump’s claims.

>
> “A very Happy Thanksgiving salutation to all of our Great American Citizens and Patriots who have been so nice in allowing our Country to be divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at, along with certain other foolish countries throughout the World, for being ‘Politically Correct,’ and just plain STUPID, when it comes to Immigration,” one of [Trump’s Nov. 27 Truth Social](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115625429081411360) posts read.

In recent decades, advocates have campaigned to end the use of the word, and it was becoming seemingly unacceptable to use.

By definition, a disabled vessel cannot be running anything. It’s out of commission. This is straight up murder, planned in advance and with total disregard for human life. I’m absolutely appalled.

This is the very definition of an illegal order. Everyone in the chain of command, from Hegseth all the way down is now guilty of a war crime.

This is like if a pilot shoots down an enemy aircraft and then goes back and strafes the pilot who ejected and is parachuting down. It’s a crime. It’s illegal. Shit like this is actually used as an example during military training of “THIS IS AN ILLEGAL ORDER”

And yet the military just obeys, and defies the constitution. It’s pretty clear that they have loyalty to Trump. This just shows Mark Kelly and colleagues were very, very correct in what they pointed out.

> > Do presidents have to declare the third Thursday of every year to be Thanksgiving?
>
> Up until 1941, Thanksgiving didn’t occur on a fixed date, and, yes, the actual date was set each year by presidential proclamation. In 1941, Congress passed, and President Roosevelt signed, a law which permanently fixed Thanksgiving as the **fourth** Thursday in November, and removed the need for the annual proclamations.

It was a [little more complicated than that](https://fdrfoundation.org/there-and-back-again-how-fdr-shaped-thanksgiving/).

> In 1939 the general manager of the Retail Dry Goods Association wrote to Secretary of Commerce Harry Hopkins warning that the late calendar date of Thanksgiving that year (November 30) would adversely effect retail sales.
>
> Remember this was still the day when it was considered bad form for retailers to display Christmas decorations or have “Christmas” sales before Thanksgiving. With the economy still in a slump, FDR issued a proclamation moving Thanksgiving up a week, to the 23rd.
>
> The plan encountered immediate opposition, especially from Republicans, which was surprising given their pro-business stance. [Alf Landon](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alf_Landon), Roosevelt’s challenger in the 1936 election, called this “another illustration of the confusion which [Roosevelt’s] impulsiveness has caused so frequently during his administration. If the change has any merit at all, more time should have been taken working it out… instead of springing it upon an unprepared country with the omnipotence of a Hitler.” Athletic associations weren’t pleased either: it wreaked havoc with their football lineups. Cities, towns, schools and universities had to alter schedules as well. Overall 62% of Americans opposed the change with 79% of Republicans in the no column. Some began to call it “Franksgiving.”
>
> As FDR’s declaration was based on the “moral authority” of the president, it was up to the states to decide whether or not to implement it. Twenty-three states’ governments and the District of Columbia recognized the non-traditional date, twenty-two states preserved the traditional date on November 30, and the remaining three – Colorado, Mississippi, and Texas – celebrated both dates.
>
> The proposal fared a little better in 1940 & 41, but Congress soon had enough of the confusion. By joint resolution, Congress fixed the date on the fourth Thursday, where it remains.

The confusion was immortalized in 1942’s _Holiday Inn_.

> The agreement requires Northwestern to comply with federal anti-discrimination laws, overhaul its policies on campus demonstrations, and implement mandatory antisemitism training for students, faculty and staff\*,\* conditions similar to those imposed on other campuses. The university will pay the settlement through 2028.
>
> The university’s $790 million of [federal funding](https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/09/us/cornell-northwestern-federal-funding-freeze?cid=external-feeds_iluminar_yahoo) was suspended earlier this year amid a [Title VI civil rights](https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/additional-measures-to-combat-anti-semitism/)investigation, part of a broader administration effort to scrutinize university policies and campus speech. Mark Kelly](https://apnews.com/article/pentagon-mark-kelly-troop-investigation-4882f76b05dcdfa3060c284c2c84dd12) over a video that urges American troops to defy “illegal orders” has raised a slew of questions, and some criticism, from legal experts.
>
> Some say the Pentagon is misreading military law to go after [Kelly](https://apnews.com/article/who-is-mark-kelly-military-d3f67f108de8de7569305fca5a913c27) as a retired Navy fighter pilot. Others say the Arizona Democrat cannot be prosecuted as a member of Congress. A group of former military prosecutors insists he did nothing wrong.
>

He said the true numbers could be higher, accusing the agency of ignoring the safety concerns for years.
