There was an item on our local news here tonight saying that Agent Orange had signed a memo telling the Department of the Interior to review the Lumbee Indians’ longstanding request for federal recognition of their tribe. Most of the Lumbee live in a very red area of the state, so I am sure many voted for him. Maybe they shouldn’t hope too hard for that now? ---

That’s the traditional interpretation, but we know modern conservatives have no respect for tradition when it gets in the way of their power. The text that establishes the pardo power isn’t all that long: " The President … shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of [impeachment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_impeachment_in_the_United_States)." All the Supreme Court needs to do is assert that an offense against any individual State is an offence against all, and so is against the “United States”. That gives Trump power over any criminal action anywhere. ---
