You know, I’ve been asked for a bribe before. In Brazil. Long story, but I needed to get some specialized lab equipment in to support a study, and there was only one manufacturer in the world. So we were going to send one we had to them on loan. I learned the hard way what a nightmare importing stuff like that into Brazil was. The equipment sat in customs for months, and at one point one of the officials told me he could take care of it for me if I took care of him. It was actually kind of a relief to be able to say “Sorry, pal, but I can go to jail for that, and this job ain’t worth jail time.” ---
