Prior to the Iranian Revolution and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan it was _en vogue_ for British hippies to travel overland by bus from Paris to the Far East, sampling the exotic delights along the way, a la Rush’s “A Passage to Bangkok”.

I assume Mick’s troubadors were of that stock.
