I think it was **[Jonah Goldberg](https://jonahgoldberg.com/)** who drew a distinction between _liars_ and _bullshitters:_ The Liar: Respects the truth but ignores or tortures it for a specific purpose. The Bullshitter: Operates with total disregard for the truth, focusing solely on the emotional or immediate effect on the audience, and usually designed to further a particular aim. Obviously, he pegs Trump as a pure bullshitter and says that the bullshit is far more harmful to populism and political discourse than the lies. ---
