The Republicans have been blatantly evil for _decades_ now; I don’t think anyone who voted for Trump or any other Republican in 2016 deserve any forgiveness. A vote for the Republicans _is_ a vote for hatred, cruelty and tyranny, and has been since at least Reagan. Whatever lies they tell, that is the real reason people vote Republican; they are at war with humanity, and war to hurt and kill as many of us as possible. Just for the sheer orgasmic joy of doing so. ---

I said somewhere on this board that the trump presidential library will consist of a couple of flash drives in an old Altoids tin to be be kept in a janitor’s closet at trump tower. That’s more than his record deserves. ---

I can’t claim any special insight into his character as I didn’t realize the depths of his venality or his foolishness. I’ll cut American voters some slack in 2016. But they knew who he was in 2020. In 2024, they knowingly voted for a grifting, venal rapist. No slack. ---

No argument there. I figure it will be at least two generations before the US’ reputation will be even approaching what we had. I don’t think people are that bad and I hope (and expect) you’ll have a great trip. But, your American accent will be a jumping off point for some people to talk politics though, so I’d recommend just saying you know things are bad and you don’t want to talk about politics. ---

That’s what I would expect. Nearly a decade ago, I went to Iceland and met some Brits on holiday who had supported Brexit and lamented they didn’t realize there would be consequences for them while I got to one-up their Boris Johnson with our Donald Trump. Americans aren’t unique in being screwups. But we sure like to do it flamboyantly and competitively. ---
