Shouting at an unimpressed mullah over the phone is a sign of losing yes - to anyone but him. To _Trump,_ “speaking softly” and trying to come to some compromise would be losing. To Trump, any result other than one where he gets a profit and the Iranians get _nothing_ is him losing. Above all, the Iranians must get nothing or he’s a “loser”; in Trumpland, there’s no such thing as mutually beneficial, only winners and losers. And if the other guy gets something, that means he’s the winner and you are the loser. It’s a pathological attitude towards human relationships that makes him a terrible negotiator and leaves him with little ability to deal with people who refuse to just roll over for him. ---
