When and where did that gender rumor come from anyway? I seem to remember it starting during Obama’s second term, well before the 2016 campaigns started. Around the time Michelle was into her nutrition program for kids in schools. ---

The “Michelle Obama is secretly a man” rumor is a way to signal to like-minded people that you’re part of the “in group” without actually using the n-word. And you can back slap other Klan members and congratulate each other on your “cleverness” over the in-joke. (A shibboleth of sorts I suppose. I don’t for a second believe anyone perpetuating this rumor seriously believes Michelle Obama is not biologically a woman) I imagine the psychology goes something like - black women don’t qualify as “Real Women” because a “Real American Woman” is white, with long blonde hair, and has a “MAGA face.” They don’t check enough boxes in the racist suppositions in their twisted little minds. And yes, I know I’m being incredibly pessimistic right now and I apologize for that. I don’t know if it’s possible to trace it back to a single person or event or time, but I know I heard rumors about this back when Obama was still in office. It probably started among the tea partiers of the time, which were a precursor of the modern MAGA cult. ---
