Let’s hope the convicted felon-in-chief doesn’t “let it all hang out” the way ol’ Pee-Wee did to prove that’s not the origin of the nickname.

[The felon is always grifting.](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/donors-duped-into-giving-cash-to-trump-backed-group-instead-of-bipartisan-america-250-team-report-154341768.html)

> [@](#):

> Some philanthropists seeking to support America’s 250th anniversary celebrations were misled into paying out their donations to a partisan initiative backed by the [White House](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/white-house), [House Democrats](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/democrats) have alleged.
>
> The donors had meant to contribute to America250, a congressionally-chartered board founded a decade ago. But instead they were given routing and account numbers that directed funds to Freedom 250, President [Trump’s](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/donald-trump) own organizing effort established last December, according to Democrats from the House Natural Resources Committee.
>
> The lawmakers made their claims in a new report published Thursday in which they declined to name the donors or whistleblowers they interviewed as part of their investigation.
>
> However, they have said their report exposes some of the strategies employed by Trump officials to turn a bipartisan celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States into [a lucrative opportunity](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/inside-trump-takeover-america-250th-151256958.html) for the president’s allies.

[And it was the Froth of July thanks to the felon.](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-launches-america-250th-birthday-053035599.html)

> Donald Trump has kicked off [the US’s 250th birthday](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/donald-trump-hijacked-america-250-110042309.html) weekend with an extraordinary partisan attack on the “communist menace” in the US, framing its supporters as “the enemy of July 4th 1776”.
>
> The US president spoke for half an hour on Friday night at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, the latest stop on his tour celebrating the milestone anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence from Britain.
>
> Greeted by chants of “USA! USA!” and briefly interrupted by a flyover of F-16 jets, Trump praised the four presidents whose faces are [carved into the granite mountain](https://www.nps.gov/moru/index.htm): George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
>
> “They were men of action, men of ambition, men of daring, men of destiny and men of truly great intelligence,” said Trump, who has never ruled out [the idea of his own face](https://luna.house.gov/posts/breaking-rep-luna-introduces-legislation-to-carve-president-trump-on-mount-rushmore) being added to Mount Rushmore. “Above all, they were the great men of history.”
>
> The president asserted that US exceptionalism is rooted not only in its constitution, but its distinctive culture and identity. He condemned recent attempts to “beat the American spirit out of us” and “alienate us from our history”, vowing to an overwhelmingly white crowd: “We are going to give our country its identity back.”
>
> Trump then abandoned any pretence of making a traditional head of state’s speech designed to rise above the fray, unify political parties and strike a chord with citizens of all persuasions.
>
> Instead, four months before November’s midterm elections for the US Congress, he picked up on a theme [he has repeatedly hammered lately](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-attacks-democrats-godless-communists-225525722.html): casting progressive Democrats as communists, who pose an existential threat to the US. He was speaking hours after Zohran Mamdani, the mayor of New York and a democratic socialist, delivered a pro-immigrant address [widely seen as a rebuke of Trump](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/zohran-mamdani-deliver-speech-mark-100025294.html) and his “Make America Great Again” movement.

Dang. I could’ve used “Froth of July” for the min-rants thread title!

> Lawyers for Donald Trump have requested more time to pay a $5m civil judgment to magazine columnist E Jean Carroll from 2023, days after the US supreme court declined to hear an appeal.
>
> In [a new filing](https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.590045/gov.uscourts.nysd.590045.236.1.pdf), the president’s attorney said that since his former lead counsel, Justin Smith, took up a position as a federal judge last month (a post he was nominated to by Trump), his new lead counsel, Josh Halpern, needed more time “to become completely familiar with the facts and procedural circumstances” of the case.
>
> A jury awarded Carroll damages after concluding that Trump had sexually abused her in 1996 and then defamed her after she publicly described the attack in 2019. Trump deposited money in an escrow fund to pay the award but is trying to delay the release of an amount that is now nearly $5.8m with interest.
>
> Trump’s attorneys requested that the court extend the deadline for a response to Carroll’s request for payment to 14 July, arguing that the “plaintiff faces no risk of material harm as a result of granting this request”.
>
> They argued that the judgment is secured by money held by the court, including “sufficient accrued interest to cover any post-judgment interest that would accrue if the Court were to consider Plaintiff’s motions”.
>
> In [a response](https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.590045/gov.uscourts.nysd.590045.237.0.pdf), Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, countered that Trump’s request for an extension “appears to be little more than yet another play for time”.

>
> But Trump was undeterred. She had been discussing a roundtable since November when President Donald Trump signed a “Fostering the Future” executive order, which is intended to improve child welfare outcomes. The order was nice but to give it teeth, Congress needed to step up.
>
> The roundtable was convened in April. Sitting between Smith, chair of the Ways and Means committee and Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.), the ranking member of the panel’s subcommittee on work and welfare, Trump publicly lamented that only 3 percent of children in foster care earn a college degree and called the legislation a “moral imperative.”
>
> Then, the roughly half-dozen members went behind closed doors and the first lady, according to Smith, said, “I want this on Donald’s desk by the August recess.”

I would advise caution, however, in both the metaphor and the literal. “Ripping [Trump] a new one” can _only_ exacerbate both the leakage _and_ the alleged smell.

And the air quality in DC is bad enough already, right now.

Plus Musk wasn’t actually an official. Doge was never actually established by Congress and Musk was never confirmed as a department head. No impeachment possible. What he should have been is arrested for theft of data and violation of privacy statutes, but that is never going to happen. Trump is the one who should have been impeached, and convicted and removed from office and arrested - but we all know that will never happen either.

> Like President [Donald Trump](https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump), Burgum said he was 100% sure that [vandals caused the damage](https://apnews.com/article/trump-reflecting-pool-paint-algae-6b7b499ada2701a34bc6bc380013ad04) to the century-old Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. Trump has charged that a 350-foot gash was cut into the pool’s liner in the midst of recent renovations, while Burgum described it as multiple cuts adding up to that figure. He also said the pool would have to be at least partially drained in the coming week to finish the repairs.
>
> The repairs will not be opened up to new contractors, he said.
>
> “We’ll use the same company, because they did a fantastic job,” Burgum told CNN’s “State of the Union." ”Thankfully, the vandalism was small. It was bad. I mean, it could cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair, so then it could fall into a felony … just like damaging any other government property could. But the job that was done to fix the Reflecting Pool was done extremely well."

So the outfit which couldn’t do the job right is getting the job to do the job right even though they’re the outfit which couldn’t do the job right after they got the job to do it right. See above about the infinitesimal mirror. And, yes, that high-falutin’ word refers to Rip van Simple’s so-called brain.

We’re going to try one more time on a budget reconciliation bill, and I think that will be the way to get it through the Senate, and finally, to the president’s desk.”
>
> Johnson defended the House version of the SAVE America Act as the “backbone” of what President Trump is pushing for to pass the Senate.
>
> He said that although a prohibition on mail-in voting with exceptions and other requests made by Trump could be included, the “bigger reach” is to hone the bill to focus on providing proof of citizenship when registering to vote and the presentation of photo ID before casting a ballot — the core components of the bill.

>
> Stephanopoulos pressed Burgum to provide specifics in support of the president’s statement.
>
> “You’ve reported that vandals caused the damage,” Stephanopoulos said. “The president has repeatedly claimed that vandals cut a 350-foot gash in the pool. That’s the claim that’s echoed in a legal filing by your department. What specific evidence do you have to back up that claim?”
>
> “Well, we have the actual cuts that were made into the industrial liner,” Burgum said. “And that’s… been measured out. So, that’s just a fact that that’s what we’ve got to go back and repair.”
>
> “That there’s a 350-foot gash?!” Stephanpoulos said.

I’m not an engineer and being related to actual engineers hasn’t improved my non-existent engineering skills a whit, but even I know what caused those gashes: tension. The dummies the dummy hired stretched the material and it ripped.

> “Haiti is a failed state, and I think that deporting Haitians that are under TPS right now, back to Haiti, would be a huge mistake,” he [told CBS News](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j65vA4nhRE0). Giménez also called for the re-instatement of TPS status to Venezuelans after the record-breaking twin earthquakes that struck north-central Venezuela on 24 June.
>
> Temporary protected status, Giménez said, “is meant to safeguard those who are either fleeing countries that are failed states and are at risk of going back to them or countries that really can’t handle them right now, as is the case with Venezuela that has suffered a natural disaster”.
>
> Giménez, whose family fled Cuba when he was seven, represents part of Miami-Dade county, home to some 110,000 residents of Haitian ancestry.
