Whatever happened with the Gulf of Mexico? Is anyone actually calling it the Gulf of America these days, or did people just ignore the stupidity after the initial furore? ---

A Canadian friend sent me a screenshot from a blog called Life in Canada. It’s a border map with Lake Erie relabeled as Lake Trumpsatwat. I’ll admit it made me laugh out loud. ---

Naturally, it’s used by default among US oil and gas companies, at least in-country. They certainly aren’t using the naming in their offices in Mexico. So, yes, it’s widely used. But many people end up forgetting regularly. I have, so far, not used that naming once at work. For example, the use of Persian vs Arabian Gulf is something companies have to be very careful about. So, this isn’t a new thing but it is a particularly dumb example of it. It was never controversial to call it the Gulf of Mexico in the US ever. ---
