DOJ lawyer would not (or could not) even tell the District Court judge where Garcia is. She is pissed and ordered that they report every about day what is being done to bring him back. That said, if the Reich, I mean, the government continues to play games and stonewall, what can she do?

Onion story? Afraid not.

[Military contractors pitch unprecedented prison plan for detained immigrants](https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/11/military-contractors-prison-plan-detained-immigrants-erik-prince-00287208)

> The proposal, exclusively obtained by POLITICO, says it would target “criminal illegal aliens” and would attempt to skirt U.S. immigration laws by designating part of the [CECOT] prison — which has drawn accusations of violence and overcrowding from human rights groups — as American territory. . . .
>
> The administration official also said they expect the proposal to be discussed during El Salvador President Nayib Bukele’s visit to the White House on Monday, when he is planning to meet with President Donald Trump to hash out a variety of immigration issues. . . .
>
> The proposal says Prince’s group, in partnership with El Salvador, will facilitate an operation that would handle the logistics of gathering “100,000 of the worst criminal offenders” from U.S. prisons, holding them at a 10,000-person detention camp and flying them to El Salvador.

Too much of a national humiliation for El Salvador to accept? And would SCOTUS allow Trump to add to the territory of the United States, for this purpose, without congressional authorization? I have no idea.

Okay I have a question. It feels naive but I honestly can’t come up with a good answer for this. I’m hoping others will. Or maybe I’m just missing something.

I recall the arguments from back when the Supreme Court decision concerning presidential immunity came down that it was speculated that even if the president couldn’t be held responsible for illegal actions taken under the banner of executive authority that people under him that he ordered to take illegal actions could still be held responsible.

Do we have any idea why this isn’t being done yet? It seems to me that the administration is flouting the rule of law in the most blatant and egregious way possible. Maybe nothing can be done to Trump directly. Why can’t the people directly carrying out his decisions be held accountable? Are they all being protected by the same supreme Court decision? Is this a literal “they are just following orders” situation?

I may not be a lawyer but I do understand the idea that the law can only be upheld as long as all of those involved in the system agree to uphold it. I find it hard to believe that when any other offender that wound up in court would be held in contempt for doing half of the things that this administration has been doing just in the last few months, that they wouldn’t be held accountable in some way. Somebody needs to start spending some days in jail until compliance is enforced. Why isn’t this happening yet? Is it likely to happen in the future?

It looks like the answer to whether he can pardon contempt of court is “probably”, but it’s not settled law that a president can pardon civil contempt of court or contempt of Congress.

That story is hair-raising! This appears to be the bottom line these days (from the article):

> Australia’s Smartraveller website [advises visitors to the US](https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/destinations/americas/united-states-america) that a valid visa “doesn’t guarantee entry to the United States”.

A visa never has guaranteed entry.

But, the extreme scrutiny and willingness to detain people, like happened here and with the British girl, rather than just put them on the next flight home, seems new.
