[Trumps approval rating drops to 74% among Republicans](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/11/01/trumps-approval-rating-among-republicans-falls-wapo-abc-news-poll/4120897002/)

> [@](#):
>
> WASHINGTON – A new poll by The Washington Post and ABC News shows President Donald Trump’s approval fell to its lowest level yet among Republicans in the outlets’ polling.
>
> Seventy-four percent of Republicans approve of Trump’s performance as president, an eight-point decline from the outlets’ September poll. However, 64% of Republicans “strongly approve” of Trump’s performance, relatively unchanged from September.
>
> Thirty-eight percent of Americans approve of Trump’s performance, 91% of Democrats disapprove.
>
> Polling by USA TODAY and Suffolk University from earlier this week reflected these results as well, as Trump’s base of support dug in as the impeachment inquiry escalated and began to move into a public phase after a House of Representatives vote Thursday.
>
> The Washington Post-ABC poll still shows Americans evenly divided on impeachment, with 49% of survey respondents supporting impeachment and removal from office, and 47% opposing impeachment and removal.

[That 64% of 29%](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_party_strength_in_U.S._states)? That’s the base. 61 million Americans (all ages). The non-base? 268,000,000 Americans.

Can we… at least _mentally_… stop allowing 61 to dictate to 268 what sort of world we should live in? Can we stop giving the 64% of 29% equal weight of representation over the 100% of 71%?

Who was it who insisted that the Ukrainians didn’t know trump was holding back the monetary aid? So it couldn’t be a quid pro quo. Well they did know, according to testimony revealed so far. I guess that poster isn’t in this thread anymore.

But the quid pro quo doesn’t even fucking matter. This guy used his office to get foreign help to knock out his political opponents. He didn’t care if the “investigation” even had anything to do with actual illegal acts by the Bidens because there IS no evidence of illegality on the Bidens’ part and the idea that there is illegality is a conspiracy theory for fucks’ sake. THAT is what is frightening although the quid pro quo is also disturbing.

Right on! They got lucky in 2016. Doesn’t mean they need to rule this country (forever), nor “rule” our constant daily thoughts.

~This is Texas, the lonestar state of Texas. This is the Giant, land I love…~

[Texas voters evenly split on impeachment of Donald Trump, UT/TT Poll finds](https://www.texastribune.org/2019/11/01/texas-voters-evenly-split-impeachment-donald-trump-uttt-poll-finds/)

> [@](#):
>
> To the question, “Based on what you know, do you think that Donald Trump has taken actions while president that justify his removal from office before the end of his term?” 43% of registered Texas voters say yes and 44% say no. Again, the partisan splits are what you might expect — 79% of Democrats say early removal is justified, while 79% of Republicans say it’s not. Independents were divided, 34% yes, 33% no and 24% unsure.
>
> About as many people approve of the overall job Trump is doing (47%) as disapprove (48%) — numbers that come into sharper focus when you see how others are doing. For Congress, the approval-disapproval ratio is 21% to 58%. Democratic U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s is 35% to 50%, and the ratio for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, is 26% to 42%. All of them are further underwater, in terms of public opinion, than the president, who’s floating along with about the same numbers of friends and foes.

Look, when half of _Texas_ wants you gone **even before the House rolls out its rules of impeachment** , you’re in a tough, tough situation as a conservative. One of the more underappreciated stories of the Trump Presidency is the overwhelmingly negative impact his Administration has had on Texas, and more here are realizing it as time passes.

Can’t remember where I read it. Maybe it’s in the phone transcript or something. But as I recall, the important thing to Trump was to have Ukraine announce they where starting an investigation.

I mean really, just trying to smear dirt on Biden. That is all.

Yep, all that. But I guess Texas will probably keep voting Republican for the foreseeable future. :smack:

I wish Democrats wouldn’t ignore us/Texas so much. It’s huge so I guess hard to campaign in. But we have a lot of electoral votes they could get if they wouldn’t just assume we’ll go Republican. Get your message out! Point out the harms that Republicans at the state and federal levels have inflicted on us dammit.

Whoops a bit off topic there but I am very upset and pissed off today.

I think some of this is changing. Dems made significant gains in Tejas last year and the ground operation is ramping up.

Having said that, I still think '20 is too early for a Dem presidential candidate to take the state but if immigration patterns hold steady, '24 is possible.

I don’t get it, though. If Hispanics vote mostly Democratic then why hasn’t Texas already been blue or at least purple? We’ve had a large Hispanic population for forever so why hasn’t it already happened? Gerrymandering?

There are lots of people who claim to be independent, but actually Republican, or are low-information voters who watch Fox News.

Trump’s approval rating has never gone below 35%, at least if you look at running averages. That’s his base.

And keep in mind that voter turnout is typically around 55%. Let’s say 35% of voters support Trump. And what if 70% of Trump supporters turn out to vote, while only 45% of the rest turn out? Then Trump ends up with 46% of the popular vote - same as he got in 2016.

Catholicism is my guess. The abortion thing is too much for many Hispanic women.

Also, don’t forget that “Hispanics” covers a fuckton of people - they shouldn’t all have the same viewpoints, I would hope!

Yeah, I think Nate Silver has commented on Texas likely turning blue soon, but probably not in 2020. Changing demographics, including not just race/ethnicity/national origin but also age, I think.

No, of course they don’t. Some will vote conservative or not vote or whatever. But Where I’m originally from in the valley, Hispanics are a majority minority and most are of Mexican descent. I guess I just don’t see why that population is expected to change Texas to blue if it hasn’t already.
