The Trump administration has taken legitimate programs and abused them. Sensible people understand the blame for that doesn’t fall on the people who set up the programs. ---

That some Dopers are not as flabbergasted by all this as I am is unsettling. Do I see it more clearly as an ex-pat looking in, while Americans living in the midst have become inured, like the apocryphal frog in heating water? ---

Many of us, and I’m guessing most Dopers (who are following the situation) are way past flabbergasted and well into appalled, disgusted, distressed, dismayed, despairing, and sick. And we feel helpless at this point in time. Yes, there are still Dopers who minimize the disaster that is the t—p administration, but there are fewer than there were a couple of years ago. And sometimes I think some of those apologists post their defense of DJT just to wind up the rest of us and not because they really believe in/admire him. I think they enjoy derailing threads and leading outraged Dopers on a not-so-merry chase into the weeds. Better to channel Nancy Pelosi and NOT take the bait they so freely throw out. If no one ever engaged with one of the apologists, they would soon disappear from the t—p threads. ---
