I don’t hate **Alde** , I have plenty of anti-US Government opinions myself. The short list of my gripes is this: s/he has a marked tendency to call anyone who disagrees with him/her childish or immature in GD. In the BBQ Pit, okay, it sounds silly but it’s fair game. In GD it’s downright annoying; it’s an insult in a forum that is supposed to avoid such things and it’s been pointed out repeatedly. Further exacerbating this is the use of US’ers, with the defense of English as a non-primary language, a non-romantic keyboard and dyslexia. This might hold some water if it weren’t for the fact that **Alde** has been able to spell many words equally as long as American with no problems at all and the fact that it’s been pointed out to him/her repeatedly that it’s slightly insulting. If it’s meant that way, fine, no big deal. Ducking behind this cover is distasteful to view, though.

I haven’t been able to come close to speaking or writing in spanish from watching Telemundo.
I must be learning impaired.

Do you have any examples? Again, trying to wade through the OP, it’s mostly quotes from BBQ Pit threads. It seems a little unfair to pit someone, heap invective on him, and _then_ post his responses to the pitting and say “look how rude he is”. I’m not saying you’re wrong; I’m just curious where this is all coming from.

**spooje!** English is not spelled ‘english’.
Use a spelling program. Many available.
Then buy Oxford and Collins. I have other language programs as well, maybe some 12- 15 programs.
My studies: I listened to all kind of tapes I got.
Then I read some easy books in English.
Then I copied, writing by hand, books and articles in English.
After that I chased for tourist-girls from different countries (as England, Ireland and one was from Australia) in Helsinki.
You know, languages is a great hobby. 😉

Because we are Americans, not US’ers. The polite thing to do with names is to call people, including groups of people, what they wish to be called.

Whatever. This is the first I’ve heard of it. I live in the U.S., and it’s certainly not going to bug _me_ if someone calls me a “USer”. Seems an odd thing to flame somebody for.

It’s not offensive to call Americans “USers” **milroyj** just has a stick up his ass. In fact, I, an American, will henceforth use the term “USer” just to piss him off.

I am English and speak English.
or
I am english and speak english.
Anyhow, I always spell the word ‘You’ with a capital letter.
I know that it isn’t right, but when I write a business letter to eg. Germany, I always use the capital letter for the word “you”.
Also here at boards I want to be polite, even if I do not always tend to be so.
Just in case You were wondering.
I do not understand why the word “I” has a capital letter and the word “you” is written with a ‘small’ letter? No other culture I know about has this.
Englishmen are usually very polite, but why not in this case?

I hear ya, Here, ‘you’ is never capitalized unless it’s the first word of the sentence, or used as part of a title.

Actually, I would go with:
“I am English and I speak english”.
Why? I have no idea, really, other than the first ‘English’ refering to the country (I would always capitalize coutries) and the second refering to the lanquage which is spoken put-near everywhere. Maybe laziness or familiarity.

“I” was capitalized as an abbreviation for “ic”, apparently.

Quite a leap of logic there.
Those of Pakistani and Japanese origin kind of agree that those terms are _pejoritave_ and offensive. Lot’s of other folks agree.
So far, the only one isnulted by ‘USer’ is, well…you.
