Little Bill is just a complacent bully who never stood a chance against Bill Munny. I think the Eastwood is a better pic, but _Shane_’s climax is a showdown, not a turkey shoot. ---

An outstanding cast of both whites and Indians, a good story, some faithful representation of Indian history without being condescending, and excellent cinematography. Looking at Costner through the lens of what he’s done since is unfair to this film, which stands on its own merit. ---
