I was thinking that, too!!!

“Indifference” is basically how I felt about this episode. I’m not too interested in yet another “trapped in a building for no apparent reason” scene, and this time they even had the Walkers take a break while our intrepid band took time to have a philosophical discussion.

Getting rid of Carol was not only stupid, but cruel.

I had high hopes for this season, but I feel like it’s just drifting at this point.

A strong episode for the most part. Lots of good character interaction in service of the plot, and the zombies in general were used better as well.

I didn’t buy Rick’s decision for moment, though, and if I were Carol I’d have just driven straight back to the prison and told them what’s up. Not only should banishment be up to the Council, but Carol herself is on the Council (right?), while Rick has apparently surrendered much of his leadership to go plant crops. Rick would also be sensible to the obvious relationship Darryl and Carol have, and he’d likely be quite mindful that Darryl would be pissed off to discover Carol gone. After all, the last time Rick banned someone from their group, it was Merle and Darryl took off with him to the detriment of everyone in the prison. Rick’s also not thinking straight when he’s extrapolating Carol’s surface callousness regarding the fate of the two newbies to how she’d react if Carl or Judith were in trouble. She is obviously very protective of her friends and community and would not react the same if someone she knows was gone, vs someone she met an hour ago.

It’s pretty obvious they were still alive when she killed them; otherwise it wouldn’t have been a big deal and she would’ve just said so.

> People have been calling on him to step up, yes. But they’re going to be furious if they find out he asked Carol to leave. She’s been practically running the jail. If he as any brains in his head he better say that she was taken by walkers. I wonder if that’s the plan and then someone is going to ask why Rick has her watch.

It’d be really funny if either; Rick tells everyone that & then Carol shows up, or he unknowingly arrives after her and still tells everyone walkers got her. He’ll look even more insane and unstable.

They were sick, though, and she knew that the sickness they had was a killer. She could have waited for them to die and turn, or put them out of their misery (which I think is what she said she did - gave them a quick, merciful death).

Is Carol dangerous? Is she acting too independently? Everything she’s done has been for the ultimate survival of all the humans in the jail - I have a hard time faulting her.

Ooh, it just occurred to me - we might see a Daryl-Tyreese showdown next week! That could be very exciting!

That reminds of that Zappa lyric in the song Cheepnis:

Get the distilled water! Get the canned goods!
Get the toilet paper! _You know we need it!_

The “You know we need it!” cracks me up every time.

Yep. This sums it up for me. I’m so tired of the whole story being driven by the terrible, stupid choices that Rick makes. In every episode the writers manage to find the single most nonsensical path to follow and that is where Rick goes. He isn’t the only one who makes stupid choices, just the best at it. Otherwise, the only thing he brings to the show is that brooding glare and the gravelly whisper that lost their charm by season two.

Rick isn’t ‘everyman’, forced into difficult decisions, he is Gilligan, the guy who keeps screwing things up so nobody can get off the island.

I’m not too happy with Rick’s decision about Carol – and I don’t think it will go over well with the people back at the prison – but I’m fairly certain that we will see her again. I wouldn’t be surprised if she winds up saving one of their “expeditions” from the Governor, or something like that.
Speaking of the Governor, when we last saw him, was he down to just two cronies?

I suspect we’ll see him in the final episode this season.

They’ve talked about having Governor centric episodes (plural), so we’ll see him sooner than that.

Does anyone else think that anyone back at the prison _won’t_ believe that Carol killed them? That was the first thing I thought of. Daryll won’t buy that his sweet Carol did all that in the first place and it’s setting up some epic fallout between him (and maybe others who feel the same way) and Rick.

> Once again, Carl, Carol, Daryl (and Michonne) are the only ones who get it at this point. Rick doesn’t get it, and it’s looking like he never will. Are the writers of this show still trying to make Rick out to be the good guy, rather than the clueless guy who will keep making the wrong decisions because he refuses to acknowledge the way the world really is now?

They are trying to make the show touch on the same issues as the comic and all good zombie stories. The whole scenario is about what an apocalypse does to the human condition. Rick is supposed to represent someone trying to keep his humanity in the face of a situation that makes most people lose our humanity and become more like the animals that we are. How human and empathetic can we remain while still surviving?

Kicking Carol out of the group was a decision that is detrimental to the group as a whole but shows that he is trying to remain human. She murdered two people, and as it turned out it didn’t help in any way plus would just cause more problems if others found out.

Overall the show has done a poor job exploring Rick’s humanity by making him look just plain stupid and weak most of the time, but I thought they did a little better in this specific episode.

I was completely wrong about the girl being the killer. Instead they used the killings to show how Carol has toughened up.

Why does the girl still not appear to be sick?

I now think they’re setting it up so she will save Glenn and/or Hershel in the cell block with the sick people, whereas I previously thought she was the killer and was going to kill more sick people.

I suspect Hershel will die before the end of the season but Glenn will make it.

She may not be sick, at least not with the super-flu. They’re quarantining everyone whom seems the least bit sick, so she may not have it (although hanging out with the truly sick increases her odds of picking it up).

Well, that Taurus wagon _does_ have a lower center of gravity than the Hyundai SUV, it’s also marginally more aerodynamic, and possibly lighter, it’s theoretically possible that Carol has the (slightly) faster and more stable vehicle, plus, she did see the route they took out from the prison…

…what’s to stop her from dropping the hammer, overtaking Rick, maybe cutting him off in an attempt to cause him to lose control/crash/roll that high center of gravity SUV, and simply arrive at the prison first…

Perhaps she could state that Rick’s gone bonkers again and needs to be quarantined/ in solitary, or even claim that he’s showing signs of the Captain Trips pathogen and needs to be quarantined in sickbay

Ham-fisted as Rick can be, I have to come to his defense regarding Carol.

He took her along on the trip to feel her out, and determined to his satisfaction that what she did wasn’t out of malice, but as way to protect the group, in a manner to Carol that was as bone-headed as anything Rick has done. This created a quandary, because he knew Tyreese would kill her when he found out, malice or not.

The fact that the killings were euthanasias drove him to exile Carol to save her life than to lose it to Tyreese back at the slammer. I have no doubt that had Rick thought she did them for a darker motive that he would have killed her himself before returning.
