Are you suggesting that sitting near a campfire makes it _easier_ to see enemies/zombies coming?

Yes, I am.
You obviously believe that I am mistaken. 🙂

Actually I think that I think you are mistaken. Or something.

A campfire is going to bring in more zombies and potentially more enemies as well. But it’s not going to help you see them cause (a) it’s going to ruin your night vision and (b) a campfire really sucks at illuminating anything further away than 8 or 10 feet away. Considering you are probably sitting 5 feet from the fire, that doesn’t give you much of a safe zone.

Really?? Have you never sat by a campfire?

Have you ever tried looking outside at night? Is it easier to see with your interior light on or off? When you use a flashlight, do you point it at your head or away from you? Sitting near the campfire is like putting the spotlight on yourself. You can only see around yourself in a circle of a few feet, beyond which you see very little else.

Has no one ever thought of spending the night in a tree?
High enough, and the only thing you would have to worry about is a swarm.

> The shot of the circling vultures is yet more proof that the writers are deliberately screwing with us. The heretofore steadfast refusal to show carrion-eating fauna is, I suppose, a valid creative decision, even though insects (heck, just bacteria) would have devoured the zombies by now. But using vultures solely for a lame film school 101 cliche shot is just more thumbing their noses at the viewers.

They should have acknowledged this long ago, but in most zombie stories animals flee from or ignore zombies. Infected flesh is poison. In the Max Brooks treatment he even specified that bacteria and parasites are killed so a zombie is actually rather sterile, uh, aside from the whole solanum virus thing.

Are you the guy who was wrong about Michonne (sp) finding Rick?
Calm down, you’re gonna bust something and hurt yourself. 🙂
I used to live in a trailer on five acres out in the woods. Now I rent it to someone, but I digress.
It gets rather dark. I went out behind the barn to retrieve something I left outside. I could see the lights of the house in the distance, but I put my thumb on my nose and could not see my fingers. What I later learned was a buck white tail made noises. I was sure that it was a cougar or a bear, and that I was dead meat.
But I lived to tell the tale. A zombie could have come up and bit me. With a fire, from experience at the same five wooded acres, I could see him or her, it, perhaps is a better word, shambling along from twelve feet and have time to defend myself.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I’m also not at all animated about this. I’m just surprised sometimes at the life basics that some people don’t know.

I am childless by choice. I don’t much like other people’s kids unless I am related to them. However, not liking kids is a far cry from wanting to feed them to zombies. So no I don’t think I could have run off and left a child to be torn apart let alone actually murdered her so she wouldn’t make noise. I am not a psycho bunny killer, either.

Bad idea, IMHO. Climbing a tree means you only have have one escape route. Which is down. Which is where the walkers will be. Remember the scene in this episode with Glen perched up on the prison walkway just out of reach of the walkers below? Basically the same as being in a tree. Except he had the escape route of walking through the door into the prison. No such door if he had been in a tree.

Of course not. I would save a child with my Wagner CDs.
Given a choice, Wagner wins out. 🙂

I’m sure people have to poop during the Zombie Apocalypse.
I don’t want to see folks poop on TV, and I don’t want to see children on TV, although Carol’s protege becoming a serial killer is rather entertaining.

If the walkers don’t see you climb the tree, how do they know that you’re in it? The only way that they seem to track their prey at long range is movement and noise. Their should walk right past someone sleeping in a tree.

I don’t know how I could ‘sleep in a tree’, though I never missed an episode of Man vs. Wild. Tie yourself to a branch? Carry a hammock thing with you at all times? That type of planning is like other things that take thought and pre-planning: build a moat around the prison, sleep in cars, etc. Know what I’m saying? It sounds logical and of course the characters never think of such a thing.
