> Nitpick - how did Gabriel get his collar back? He threw it in the fire a few episodes back, they even showed that scene during the intro to this episode.

Also, while we’re on the topic, why does Gabriel even wear a collar in the first place? That is not something Southern preachers (at least of the overwhelming majority of denominations here) do.

And that’s something comic book writers don’t seem to understand. See also, [Preacher](http://coronacomingattractions.com/sites/default/files/news/preacher_issue21.jpg).

1. I believe Fuckwit Gabriel is Catholic, among whom the practice is quite common, if not universal.

2. I am a lifelong Memphian, and I disagree with your premise. Certainly Church of God in Christ clergy wear the white collars nowadays; so do the ministers of several other denominations where I attended services before saying “Fuck this shit.”

Who knows. Realistically, it would be normal for the doctor to want to give them all checkups. If nothing else, they could be spreading lice & disease all over the town.

I don’t think there’s been any indication Gabriel is Catholic. And that would be a very unusual thing to be in small-town Georgia where his congregation seems to have been located. (Caveat: there are Mexican-American Catholic congregations, but that doesn’t seem to be Gabriel’s milieu.)

And having been raised in small-town Georgia, I can assure you that collars are not the norm here. In fact, outside of television, I don’t think I ever saw one growing up.

I never saw one growing up in 70s-80s Memphis either, but they’re more common now.

I don’t know, man. At some point it was clear things were going sideways in that warehouse. Time to wear zombie guts. Hell, they got showers and garden hoses in Alexandria.

I actually think Carol just likes to kill people. She justifies it in her mind, and sometimes she’s not way off. But in the case of the good doctor, she’s jumping to unhealthy conclusions.

It is interesting that Alexandria seems to be lacking some branches of government to really function. Rick is enforcing the law. But, what is the law? Just carry over the most obvious socially acceptable rules from before? And who’s passing judgment? Congresswoman?

It just occurred to me that if the kid wanted a gun, he could’ve gotten one when he was stealing chocolate. And speaking of chocolate, isn’t the quartermaster girl going to notice all her chocolate missing?

I wonder if the kid will kill his dad, and Carol will get blamed, or take the blame.

Fr. Gabriel is Episcopalian. According to the sign outside his church, it was St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church.

Yes, but they didn’t have time to stop and disembowel a zombie and paint its blood on themselves.

That would explain it. Episcopal churches are not exactly common in small-town Georgia, but not rare, either. I don’t recall seeing that sign, but I’ll take your word for it.

ETA: [Wikipedia confirms it](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Stokes_%28The_Walking_Dead%29).

“Realistically”, now there is something we rarely see. Like Rick and others talking to the doc and the town people about being at the CDC and knowing that everybody has the virus, and everybody will turn when dead, and they had a Vet with them and saved him by amputating his leg, and how his daughter would make a great nurse and could help with that missing doctors office and surgery they don’t seem to have, as well as all kinds of other things, that realistically would be the first order of business.

And how they know there are roving bands of really bad people out there, and how everyone should carry a knife or spear when going out, but “Realistically” none of that is ever going to happen.

Oops. [St. Sarah.](http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/StG61/St.%20Sarah_zpskhscvqcn.jpg) I remember it because I’m a lifelong Catholic and I’ve never seen a St. Sarah Catholic church.

I just wanted to mention I thought the two deaths in this episode, while visceral as usual, had an extra air of horrifying. Much more so than I’ve ever seen on this show. That was nice to behold.

Agreed. I’ll take my post-apocalyptic fiction any way I can get it, but it would be nice if this show wasn’t so completely divorced from reality and thinking things through.

Doc has to die, because Rick needs a love interest. They’ve already done the significant looks and friendly banter. I think doc will turn out to be a child abuser (“Send your kids over so I can check them out, Rick.”), which will make it far easier for Rick to kill the bastard.

Preacher will probably end up doing something totally crazy like opening the gates at some point to let the walkers in to destroy Satan, and Alexandria will fall. He will, of course, meet the same end that all black men meet in this saga.
