The War good/Bush bad- a tenable position?

I think this war is the right thing, and I’m glad it’s going well. However, I think how we got here was utterly pathetic and mismanged.

Paul Berman, who has been for knocking out Saddam since 1990, expresses my own views pretty well:

Bush is probably the most inept president we’ve ever had in regard to maintaining foreign alliances and presenting the American case and convincing the world. He’s failed in every possible way. The defeat and overthrow of Saddam Hussein is in the interest of nearly the entire world and although it is in the interest of nearly the entire world, nearly the entire world is against Bush. That situation is the consequence of Bush’s ineptness.

So, yes, you can be for the war, and against Bush.

However, what makes me pause is that I question whether any other plausible presidential candidate would have been driven to push us into this war. So maybe the choice wasn’t between getting to war right and getting there ineptly. Maybe it was between getting there ineptly and getting there at all.
