# The "watch the next season of \[insert current show\]!" thread

Since the regular show season is winding down, let’s each take this thread to convince people to watch one show of our choosing this summer or fall. Obviously this only applies to shows that are (or we have reason to believe will still be) in production for further seasons.
If possible, try to include a description of the show, aproximately when it returns, and who you think it’d appeal to.
This summer, I want you to watch **Haven** :
- season two is slated to begin the summer, around when Warehouse 13 comes back
(probably July)
_Loosely_ based on “The Colorado Kid” by Stephen King, **Haven** is a supernatural-themed show set in a not-so-sleepy Maine town where many of the townies were afflicted by strange powers in 1985 and again beginning in 2010. The main characters include a cop who can’t feel anything (he’s one of the afflicted), a former FBI agent who has just learned that her entire past is a lie, and a lovable criminal who helps both of the former. Each episode deals with the troubled of the week.
Selling points:
- it’s weird in a Stephen King sort of way
- the mysteries surrounding Audrey and “the troubles” are interesting
- attractive main cast
- for once a show/movie set in northern New England looks reasonably realistic
- quirky reoccurring characters, esp. the owners of the local paper
- it’s not a show that’s afraid to be silly times
Negatives:
- the show was initially supposed to be a mini-series, so the writers scrambled to write extra episodes when they got the go-ahead for 13 episodes… so the first season suffers from some growing pains and looking for footing like a lot of fledgling shows do. I think bearing with it is rewarding, but ymmv
- season one is still not out on DVD and as of yet there’s no release date\*
I recommend this show if you enjoy/ed:
The X-Files, particularly the humor and Monster Of The Week episodes
Buffy The Vampire Slayer " "
Warehouse 13
Eerie, Indiana and/or So Weird (did you ever wonder what the characters would be like as grown ups?)
\*I’ll be keeping an eye on Syfy’s schedule, and will bump this thread if I notice them rerunning season one

Okay, Little Nemo has a point: it’d be good if the network was mentioned in the post somewhere.
Come on, imagine if you’d been able to talk Dopers into giving Firefly or Arrested Development a shot before it was too late. Surely there’s a current show you like about as much?

So many to choose from. _Community. Castle_. But I think I’m going to lobby for _Eureka_.
The second half of the current season resumes on SyFy in April, with Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day getting some **major** Guest Star time. Don’t worry about getting caught up, because they will be running marathons of the previous episodes before the series resumes.
Quirky, witty, charming, sexy. The town of Eureka, Oregon was founded in the 1940s as a project of the Defense Department and populated by geniuses. Every tech development of the last 70 years probably came from Global Dynamics in one way or another. The only person keeping this crowd of eccentrics from destroying the world is Sheriff Carter, a normal cop in an abnormal town.

**silenus** , I’m sold. I tried watching a couple of episodes of **Eureka** towards the end of the first season and didn’t get into it, but it’s now on netflix and you’ve convinced me to give it another shot…starting at the beginning, this time.
So, who else would like to rec a show we shouldn’t continue to miss?

I’m going to go a little bit obscure and say Being Erica. It’s a really sweet little series from Canada, currently being shown in the US on SOAPnet. Erica meets a sort of magical therapist who is able to send her back in time to relive key moments in her life that she regrets to see if she would do things differently. In season three (currently showing), she starts ‘group therapy’ which involves others helping her in her relive sessions, or her going into theirs. It’s suggested that the next step in season 4 will be becoming a magical doctor herself and helping patients. It’s a lot of fun, with some tender moments, and it’s fun to see a show set in Canada actually owning it’s Canadianess.

I’ll second Being Erica. Its quirky, well acted with just the right amount of earnestness. But the lead actress makes this show. It also leaves you in the dark about what’s actually happening to her without driving you nuts. If they renew for a fifth season I’ll be truly excited.
Also, despite its rocky start, I think Haven has come into its own. Definatly worth getting into season 2.

Subtract a negative from my list: season one of **Haven** is coming out June 14th. It’s already been preordered for me as a birthday present 🙂
