Those explanations you have devised, as to why the Triwizard cup had to be the portkey that would transport Harry to the cemetery, may be logically consistent with J.K. Rowling’s world, but neither of those reasons is explicitly mentioned in the book.

Addressing the OP: the one that, as an adult, I would re-read the least, is the first one, which does not have all the wealth of detail of the later books. Of course I understand why the first one is written that way, but it’s the least interesting one. My favourite would probably be Order of the Phoenix for all the details of the wizard world and the pleasure of seeing the comeuppance of Dorothy Umbridge and Cornelius Fudge. Though I also love the beginning chapters of Deathly Hallows (until our three heroes take refuge at Grimmauld Place.)

Add me to the “hated Goblet” list. It’s not even close. Worst movie, too. Although not as irritating as the OOtP movie, since there was less at stake (making a bad movie from a bad book is not as big a crime as making a bad movie from a GOOD book).

GoF is my favorite. OotP is my least - too much Harry moping. Yes, it is true to a certain period of adolescence, but still hard to slog thru.

I liked GOF, I was 15 when it came out so its trhe one book when I was about Harry’s age. I think it suffered being the “transition” book, it is during it that the seires ceased to be childrens novels.
The main plot problem that I could see is that Voldemort seems to have split his brain as well as his soul. I mean what did the conversation between him and Crouch go like when they decided to enter him into the Triwizard Tournament? \*My Lord, the boy is only reasonably talented, lets enter him into a tournament which will cause him to pick up so many new hexs, jinxs and curses that he will actually be able to fight Deatn Eaters.! Capital Idea! \*
