The Wheel of Time and Dysfunctional Characters

I don’t usually think a deus ex machina ending is the way to go, but I think this should be the case with this series, which I am reading, even though it’s getting ridiculous.

The Creator should destroy all the characters, including Shai’tan and his incompetent Forsaken (NOBODY expects the Forsaken!) for being not scary enough.

Then those fantasy writers who can actually finish a series without introducing 400000 characters every book with 104, 352, 235 objectives for each character can destroy Jordan with balefire, and burn him out of the Pattern forever so I won’t be so drawn to his damn series.

<sigh> Please finish this, Mr. Jordan.

¿Qué? Who the hell wants to read nothing but stories about philosopher kings? Rand’s what, twenty? And he’s the most powerful person alive, with the responsibility for the welfare of the entire world, and of course, he’ll face all this with swashbuckling grace and a smile for the ladies? One of the things I like most about the Wheel of Time series is that Rand’s such a sullen asshole. Hell, as far as pulp fantasy goes, I find it refreshing to read about petty, contentious, shallow people for a change. I’m with BlackKnight here. I know a lot more Mat Cauthons than I do Sturm Brightblades.
